Not sure if I've shared this poem

I read a meme that said,
“When I wake up my eyebrows are already on my face”.
Good thing I don’t wear makeup.

When I woke up
I’d look like Tammy Faye
With the streaks of mascara
Running down my cheeks
Like black rivers
Of a darkness that lives
Inside.

The sparkles from my
Eye shadow that I chose
Not to wear
Would betray the face
That I put on so carefully
Just that morning
As I stepped out of my room
To face one more day

One more day.

Then another.

Marching forward
Like my feet knew just where to go
Which in hindsight
Is a good thing
Because my mind
Had no clue.

The brush stroke of the blush
That never touched my cheeks
Rosy pink
I’d rather be the stark pale
That truly defines who
I am.
And I step forward
One more time.

One more day.

Then another.

The foundation that covers
The wrinkles and lines,
The dark patches growing
Under my haggard eyes.
I can’t hide my age
The experiences I’ve lived
The hardships worn on my face.

The lipstick shining on lips that
Have never been touched
By it before.
No botox here. No puffed up
Kissers on this face.
Just a wry half smile
Being squeezed out
By the trembling.
And I take that next step.

One more day.

Then another.

And another til I’m grey.
No use covering what’s there.
I wake up with the pains
That tell me
About the life I’ve lived
To this day.

One more day.
The last day.

I love the part of the feet knowing where to go,
but the mind not knowing.
Do this a lot, walk into a room in the house,
Now why did I come in here again? ha/

I like this poem @FatMama I can relate. The older I get the less makeup I wear.

Nice poem, but the last two lines could be taken as ominous. You aren’t planning anything, are you?

No. I’m not. Eventually I’ll have my last day. We all do.

That’s a relief.

Most of my poetry is dark. This one is less than most.

As long as you express your darkness without self harm that’s great. It can be a therapeutic release of tension.
