As I’m sure y’all have read, I’ve been in a serious depression for a year now. I am desperate to beat it, though, so I’m looking for ideas. I’d love some input. Today, I ordered a SAD lamp, a coloring book and colored pencils, and a Sudoku book. I think it was @anon57786250 who said having a hobby makes a big difference, and I’m taking that to heart. I’ve been trying to play my flute every day, even if only for 5-10 minutes. I am also going to go to JoAnn’s today to get fabric to sew a basic quilt. I have my IOP appointment today, too. If they accept me, that will get me out of the house four days a week and force me to shower and get up. Any other ideas? I really want to snap out of it. If there is a will, there is a way, right?
I play sudoku and it helps
Distraction is helpful
You sound like you have a good attitude and fighting spirit
I find keeping a diary is quite helpful
sounds like you have some really nice plans in place to beat your depression and i hope and pray that they work, things you enjoy will hopefully keep you on the up
I’ve also been thinking about other things to do, i’d love to do some leather work (the idea has been simmering in my head for a couple weeks now, i have piano but its hard to practice and i’d like to whittle some wood.
Google play has FREE sudoku puzzles.
Well if you want ropey supplement advice I can suggest you take a look at 5-HTP. But you can’t take it if you’re taking an antidepressant.
50mg a day should be more than enough.
But this is something you should run by your doctor. It’s a serious supplement, it’s should be treated more like a medicine.

Are you taking any anti-depressant? That really helps me. That and getting up and going everyday. Staying clean/bathing. Forcing myself to leave the house/bed even when I feel like I can’t and setting/reaching goals. It feels to me that you’re on the right track. Your making plans and I think that’s a big part of it.
@everhopeful @Leaf Yeah, I’m an antidepressant. I had been on Zoloft for about 6 months, but it wasn’t doing anything. I was just switched to Prozac about a week ago. The only downside is that anti-depressants tend to swing me into mania. I just have to hope I can stay stable.
Thanks for all the encouraging words y’all. They are appreciated.
You may find that Prozac works a little better for you, here’s hoping.
I just got back from my IOP evaluation, and I got in! I start on Monday. It’s four days a week, 2 1/4 hrs. a day.
Good luck with IOP! Sounds like a great opportunity.
