Not feeling very optimistic

There’s so many horror stories online of people trying to stop taking Olanzapine and having severe insomnia. Some people report literally getting zero sleep for many nights.

It’s making me feel pessimistic. I’ve lowered my dose to 2.5 mg the last 4 nights. My sleep was not good last night.. and that’s still with me having some of it in my system. How bad will I get when I stop taking it completely?

I’ve tried eating healthy and losing weight a million times on this med. I do well for a bit but then the cravings always win and I say ■■■■ the diet.

I’m sticking to what I said before, if I strike out a third time trying to quit Olanzapine, I will never try again. I’ll be on this stuff for the rest of my life.

Oh yeah, my anxiety has increased too these last 4 days on 2.5 mg..

I’m afraid my anxiety will worsen after I stop taking olanzapine.

It has not affected my sleep though.

You’ve quit in the past and it never affected your sleep? or you mean it doesn’t affect your sleep currently while on it?

I sleep great when i’m on at least 5 mg. It seems like 2.5 mg might be too low for me to get good sleep.

Thats one thing ove noticed …sleep is good on zyprexa. Im on 5mg and I only take a small dose of sleeping pills. I use to have to take alot more.

Does it help with rumination?

That’s it!

But when I forget taking it I still fall asleep.

How long have you been on olanzapine?

Yeah it definitely helps sleep. Maybe a little too much. When im on at least 5 mg, I usually get at least 9 hours a night, with lots of 10 and 11 nights too. Its too much but its a million times better than getting 0 a night.

Maybe I should just stay on 5 mg. Its a low dose and my cholesterol was only slightly elevated a month ago and my blood pressure was good. I need my sleep and I hate this worsened anxiety ive had the last 4 days on 2.5 mg. I can keep trying at the weight loss thing.

Guys, please forgive me for making posts about quitting again. I guess i’ll be on this AP for life.

You wont see me posting about stopping ever again.

You can certainly try staying on 5mg

Yes, the insomnia was bad when I quit Zyprexa in January…enough to require a hospitalization. I was on 20mg. Maybe ask your provider for Lybalvi? That’s Zyprexa with samidorphan to reduce its appetite effects. I hear you about the eating…I’ve gained 20 lbs these last 2 months that they started me on clozapine. I just constantly feel hungry and, in all honesty, the hospital food is really good. When I’m out of the hospital I experience a bit of food insecurity, so it’s really a feast/famine phenomenon, too. I keep telling myself that I’ll be able to lose the weight again once I finish ECT, as I had to stop the Mounjaro for the last 6 weeks to have the procedure. We’ll see. Also, my sleep on clozapine has been amazing! I haven’t slept this good since I was on the Zyprexa…

Yeah the brain really becomes dependent on the Zyprexa to fall asleep.

I’ve heard of Lybalvi, it’s probaby way more expensive though and im broke. I’ll look into the prices.

Glad you’re getting good sleep on Clozapine! It’s known to do that.

Im glad to hear you are sleeping  well on clozapine too.

Are you feeling better otherwise too?

Yeah, that’s true for me. I tried tapering a few times, but I came to a realisation it’s not going to work. I experience subtle relapse symptoms when tapering, so subtle they are hard to pick up on. But that means it’s not going to work. I’m ok with it though.

I’m glad you’re going back up on your ap. Bad anxiety and bad sleep can cause psychotic symptoms. Try 5 mg or even 10 mg like your dr prescribed. Both are still low doses. You exercise a lot and that’ll help a lot. Ask about lybalvi too if you can afford it. Or the oral melting zyprexa. I’ve had no weight gain with that. Never tried lybalvi just the melting tabs. Best wishes. :slightly_smiling_face: @TheCanuk

It’s an extremely difficult med to get off of. I will most likely be on it for life.

Try not to have a self fulfilling prophecy, if your convinced you will not sleep then you won’t. I successfully got off zyprexa with no difficulty.

How long were you on it? Did you switch to a different med while stopping it?
