No voices in my head

I hear that some schizophrenics (such as myself, usually) do not experience auditory hallucinations. How common is it among schizophrenics to not hear voices? I only hear voices and weird sounds when I’m half asleep, is that actually a neuro-typical thing? Who else here is schizophrenic but doesn’t hear voices?

I quite often think and get told that you need to hear voices to be a valid schizophrenic, which I know is untrue, but still works it’s way into my brain. It would be great to know that there are others out there with the diagnosis that don’t experience those kinds of hallucinations.

I know a lot of people on here are Schizophrenic and don’t hear voices. I hear voices, unfortunately, but many people on here don’t. Delusions are enough, I guess.

Well mine technically wouldn’t be “voices” as I don’t hear them with my ears…but they’re in my head. They are not delusions, and not thoughts I consciously can control. I’ve attempted to control them by taking my inner thoughts and controlling as much as I can of them, and I could still hear the “other” thoughts going on. I do occasionally hear a random sound here or there, but usually chalk it up to having very thin windows/walls and living in an apartment complex.

I have a (questionable) diagnosis of schizophrenia (and a more reliable diagnosis of psychosis-NOS). And like you, I do not hear voices. Rather, when I was acutely symptomatic, I thought the people around me were comment on my thoughts and repeat my thoughts as if they were reading them in real-time. I think “thought broadcasting” or “people reading one’s mind” is a different phenomena from the voices that many schizophrenics have reported hearing.

Yes it is a different feeling. I think if I didn’t know they were “voices” I would assume they came from other people as like you mentioned people reading minds or thought-broadcasting. I still feel this way sometimes when I’m around others but the voices/thoughts also happen when I’m alone which is why I can differentiate the two I think…that and back in the depths of my mind I know people can’t read your thoughts…just like you can’t read others. You might be able to make cleaver judgement based on body-language, or actual conversations with the people you think are sending/reading thoughts…but I don’t think you can say you know what a person is thinking.

Some of the bipolars only hear voices infrequently. Some people called schizo are actually experiencing social harassment from other psychotics in area…Can be really bad if the local churches took up harassment of ‘thieves’ who got disability pay after mental care…locally it is mishandled PTSD/amnesia situations caused by some of the local sex abusers. Mental care/therapy refuses to discuss so many victims got so upset they nervous breakdown, they started the voices on themselves plus insomnia, depression and social harassment by some of the other closet psychotics in community. Sad but this happened to a lot of the older women who grew up around the sex abuse a bit or worked with them even, no physical attacks took place but still told so much scary stuff about her family situation it caused amnesia/PTSD. Woman was aware she was harming people but is not illegal. Victims were refused restraining orders, even when some were harmed, and cops started to do forced psych care on victims so many just left the community when the local discrimination started on them.

I met some men who had the local discrimination thing worked on them badly but they won’t admit they hear the voices much. Many people were trained to lie about hearing the voices and it won’t be so bad for you. These guys were mistreated so badly in community it left them fired and unable to stay in apartments but if they got an attorney they could get disability pay sometimes. Men had run into something in community that causes these problems like the group I knew. I’m in small city so lots of things do bite here and there are a lot of scams, many the cops just assist as is wealthier abuser with good attorney.
