No, Bringing Back Mental Institutions Won’t Stop Mass Shootings

I hate the idea of people linking mass shootings with mental illness, but I love the idea of bringing back mental institutions.

I know I may get some flack for saying that, but what Regan did to close them down was terrible. So many mentally ill people have ended up in jail or homeless because of de-institutionalization. Now dont get me wrong, I know mental institutions have done evil things to patients. The field of psychology and psychiatry as a whole has done bad things, but the current system of you need to be suicidal to get on a ward simply does not work.

There are people who need constant care, but they cant get it because space is so limited on psych wards and they can only take the emergencies.

in my opinion, I would blame the low functioning people with Anti social personality disorder.

I say bring back the mental institutions.
It’s better than jail or prison.

Was unaware that they closed mental institutions? They couldnt have entirely. There is a state mental hospital about twenty minutes away. Some of the people living there call it there permanate home.

Taking away automatic weapons has been a resounding success in Oz. New Zealand is doing a similar thing now.

Automatic guns aren’t for hunting. They are designed to kill people and not game.

I suspect that if you think you need a gun to defend yourself versus your government then your dangerous and anti society. It’s not democracy and yet the gun lobby spends millions every year to keep people supplied with weapons. Sad days and the mentally ill shouldn’t be in this conversation!

Now they’re using jails as psychiatric hospitals. The inmates hate it because it makes them weak and unable to fight as well as they used to.
