Nightmares

Can APs or anti depressants cause nightmares? I’ve been having some seriously bad nightmares and my sleep paralysis has come back. I used to get sleep paralysis every night when I was younger and the past few nights I have had it again.

I’m paranoid about home intruders and house fires and my sleep paralysis and nightmares usually involve one or both of those. Should I mention any of this to my therapist and psychiatrist?

Try taking your meds at the exact same time everyday. That might help. I know from experience with abilify that if I don’t do that I can get funky dreams.

I just looked it up and apparently my beta blocker that I take for akathisia and TD can cause nightmares and that’s the newest medication that I’m on. I’ve been taking it for about a month though, does that seem like my nightmares would have started before the last few days if they were caused by my beta blocker?

Seroquel caused me to get sleep paralysis frequently, so I got off of it. Now, I get sleep paralysis every once in a while… not sure if the meds affect my dreams, but anyway yes, tell your therapist and psychiatrist about it too.

Sounds to me like we’re having the same problems, Starting to think sleep paralysis is linked to schizophrenia.

I had severe cases of it when I was a child into late teenage years. I have had it a few times here and there but it’s been every night the past few days and I hope it’s not here to stay.

I wonder if it’s linked to anxiety.

Haha I’m the same way with metoprolol. Fortunately if I get close my phone recognizes what I’m trying to type.

I’m not sure about the meds causing it but it is definitely something to bring up next time you see your pdoc. Hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

Thanks. I’ve been worried about home intruders since I was a kid. I saw this story about a man who abducted a child and killed the poor kid and did some other unspeakable acts. I was 5 when I watched it, it was on a true crime show, and it left an emotional scar. I was terrified of home intruders and right now I’m downright paranoid about it. I know that’s what’s feeding the nightmares.

Yeah i get where you’re coming from. Maybe it’s something you could work through in therapy. Do you have a therapist? It might be something worth looking into.

Yeah I have a therapist. I havent talked about it because we’ve been discussing other more pressing matters, but this is getting out of hand.

I don’t have anxiety at all but I am schizophrenic and lucid dream all the time and experience sleep paralysis 2-5 times per week.
