I have all of these pretty much conquered. At least as much as I’m going to get them anyway.
Emperor Waltz, by Johann Strauss, Jr.
Wild Horses, by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Mighty Lak’ A Rose, by Ethelbert Nevin

Would love to hear one or more of them, if you want to record them!
I tried. I tried videorecording myself playing, Wild Horses, and I just sounded plain awful. Downright embarrassing. It’s not uploadable for that reason. As a matter of fact, its so bad that I’m quitting piano as of right now. I’m texting my teacher of 12 years now.
have you tried playing along to the music?
I play the flute and sometimes i kick myself i sound so bad lol
But i love picking it up sometimes and belting out something good
Bad in what sense? Timing, sound, mistakes?
@dreamer54, Sound. Always sound.
Don’t quit! I think we all should foster a love for playing and listening to music. You might just be overly critical of yourself at the moment and not see the beauty of it. I try not to make big decisions when frustrated or everwhelmed.
Extraordinary. “Mighty Lak’ A Rose” huh. You never fail to surprise. ![]()
I bet you can do it. Look at him, 94 y.o.
You need to ask yourself the question, if you want to grow older beeing able to play music.
The experiences and emotions an older person can give to a tune are invaluable, compared to a 13 y.o. talent.
On the other hand, I know it has been 12 years with your teacher. But I would suggest you trying other teachers, even through skype or zoom. The thing is, how we learn can be vastly different, even if we consider a teacher good enough. There’s someone out there who can teach really good.
Your teacher of 12 years,
still teaches simple songs
like wild horses?
Here is an interview regarding the best jazz trumpeter alive.
Bud Powell was untreated (and he used to consume narcotics).
Yes. That’s how basic a level I still play at. Even after 17 years of study.
I asked my teacher if he could start helping me with performance (we never focused on that before). He enthusiastically said he could. He said we would have to address my high anxiety as well.
Do you practise free improvisation? That is great for sound.
You should gather a group of friends and do a concert this way. Or go to a coffee shop where there is one piano.
The point is to let go.
You can play whatever you find beautiful in the moment. Even one hand. Even silence. Lots of silence.
I can improvise. I’m actually told I’m fairly good at it. But when I demonstrated it to my teacher, he pointed out that I wasn’t counting as I was playing so that discouraged me @dreamer54.
That’s stupid bs. Your teacher knows nothing.
Free improv is usually done rubato, or without time.
Oh really? LOL.
