New Manga Book Tells Author's Personal Story of Schizophrenia

Bunkasha released Kikori Kimura’s Tōgō Shicchō-shō Nikki (Schizophrenia Diary) manga book on Tuesday.

Kimura began having symptoms of schizophrenia in high school. The book’s “comic essays” tell her personal experiences. The book discusses the story of Kimura’s situation when she began having symptoms, as well as her daily life with auditory and visual hallucinations, from her own perspective.

According to the book, about 1 in 100 people have schizophrenia. Psychiatrist Masahiko Shidō provided columns for the book explaining what schizophrenia is and what to do if someone you know begins having symptoms.

Ooooooh I’m excited!
