New Exercise Regime

I decided to exercise again to lose weight. I cannot afford to go to a martial arts gym, but my friend is an amateur fighter, so she took me to the park yesterday to hold pads for me to hit and kick! It felt great! It’s been many months since someone held pads for me, and I missed it. I’ve been training off and on since like 2013, but my technique isn’t that great, so I’ve never been allowed to fight in a real, competitive fight like I want to.

I worked out for just an hour, but she really pushed me to kick punch kick kick kick kick punch punch in very fast succession and I was exhausted by the end of that hour!

My body is thanking me for exercising with little waves of relaxation.

My friend has a boyfriend with a punching bag in his home, along with mats on the floor, so they invited me to come over and train with them for free!

I am very grateful to my friend for exercising with me. Shadow boxing on my own, while good, is just not the same as kicking the pads that someone else holds. My mind is totally mellow right now! That’s why I think martial arts is so amazing, it clears the head. I just wish I had the 90 bucks a month to train in a real gym on my schedule, but I am so glad that my friend is being such an awesome person and letting me train for free!

My son, may he rest in peace, was a martial artist, like you.
My exercise regimen is to practice yoga for anywhere from 20- 45 minutes a day, and practice piano or keyboard for 45 minutes daily and take the stairs in my apartment complex everyday.

Martial arts are great for the mind/body/and soul!

Do you have a YMCA gym near you? They tend to offer really reasonably priced martial arts classes like Karate or TKD. When I was in the military I met an Okinawan Karate blackbelt who taught at a YMCA. He was a really cool dude!

Krav Maga is another one that a lot of community centers are starting to offer. Any books by David Kahn I recommend.

@Chrishasheart no, no ymca or anything, but I’m still going to the park with my friend until her bf’s home gym is set up. it’s funny, because we were just there punching and kicking pads and the people at the park are like: :astonished:
haha
We went to the park yesterday for a brief hour and there were a couple of guys just watching us train like they weren’t sure what was going on lol
I will check out David Kahn, thank you!

yoga is awesome! I took a yoga class back when I was 19 and it did really help me.
