I was diagnosed with schizophrenia-affective disorder about 4-5 years ago. I started off by taking invega shots. Then I quit after a year or two and switches to respridone I forgot the dosages I was on with invega but my muscles never fully healed from it. And I can’t take naps throughout the day. I try to go jogging but can only do it for 15 minutes. My body is still pretty weak. It’s been like 3 years since I got off invega sustenna and nothing really changed. Has anyone experienced this and can recommend anything to cure my self from this? Or is this permanent? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Hi and welcome to the forum !
For me risperidone was not a good choice. Everyone reacts differently to APs. I don’t think your current muscle weakness has anything to do with the invega shots you took until 3 years ago. Better do a heart check-up. And maybe running just isn’t your thing. Other posters here have had success with yoga, stretching etc. To each his own.
I was forced on Invega ER in my state hospital. I was on it for 8 months and the side effects were unbearable. My arms were weak, stiff and sore and I couldn’t raise my left arm over my head.
I had to switch pdocs so I could go back on zyprexa. I’ve mostly been on 1.25 mg zyprexa since 1997.
I’ve been off Invega for 6 months. Invega was a nightmare for me. My arms are still weak but not as bad as before.
I’m sorry respridone didn’t work out for you. It’s the only thing that’s helping me right now. I don’t want to get back to invega shots. I do think my muscle weakness was caused by the shots. Prior to that I was a boxer who ran 7 miles a day and worked out after. I was in great shape. But after a psychosis moment and getting on invega. I lost all that. I’ve gotten blood tests and nothing seems to come up. So I just been living with this, hoping someday it’ll just go away
I’m glad you found something that worked for you. Invega has some bad side effects for us. I hope your arms get better as time passes.
Sorry to say, but if it has been three years, there is probably no more invega in your system. It would be very unlikely to still be causing problems.
Are you taking risperidone as a shot or as pills? There are other shots available, and even more options with pills.
I ran a marathon just 3 months before my first psychotic episode. That was 6 years ago. Now I am lucky if I’m not out of breath after only 2 miles. So I can relate. But I blame lack of exercise and smoking. Also running had never been my thing until a year prior, I guess I was overexerting myself due to a mental restlessness and maybe that was just one of the early symptoms of the illness.
I’m guessing it was the effects it caused my body that never recovered. I’m hoping that the invega is out my body but I still feel the weakness it caused. I feel fatigue and restless. I’m taking the respridone pills.
