4 famous star Cheese burgers, 1 Large fry and 1 large soda.
Yup. Nothing is cheap, these days.
I get my money’s worth when I buy peppermint shakes on pay day with burgers and chicken sandwich with large fry…about 30 bucks…but their biscuits and gravy double order in the mornings only cost 4 dollars…I always get the biscuits and gravy.
I get coupons in the mail. I can buy two angus burgers for $9. Two hamburgers are filling.
I can make 4x the food for the same $$$ at home.
Package of spaghetti and jarred sauce $7.50. Half gallon of milk $3.50. 2 liter soda, $2.00. Home made French fries, a ton of them for $1.50. Maxx pack chicken legs or thighs. 3 pounds for $4.00. Head lettuce $3.50. carrot, 69 cents, bell pepper $2.50, avocado $1.50. Total: $28.00, Makes 6 meals for two people.
Or I find ground beef on sale $1.99 a pound. 4 pounds, $8.00. Hamburger buns $2.50. Condiments cost are negligible. Tomato $2.50, Onion, 75 cents.
I only wrote this because I go out to eat all the time and easily drop $12 or $13 for one meal just for me, and come home and figure out that I could have bought enough food at the grocery store for the same amount of money for 4 or 5 meals.
$3 per meal three times a day is $300 a month. It adds up. I think if you eat at home you can get away with maybe a little less than $3 per meal. $3 can’t get you anything going out.
3 dollars a meal? I don’t like ramen.
Check this out. Look at the cost per recipe and per serving.
I was going to go there once, until I saw it was $14 for a hamburger.
Nah hamburger is $6 a pound so a quarter of that plus a bun $.30 ketchup and slice of cheese. Add some tots for another $.75 and you’re around $3. 2 eggs, slice of sausage and a piece of toast is around $2. It’s totally doable. Over the day it’s around $10 to eat at home for me. I don’t spend more than around $300 a month on groceries so I must be close. Maybe I go a little over.
People go out to eat for the convenience of it.
Yea a while ago I paid $30+ for 2 loaves of bread and a cookie at a boutique type store. Don’t mean to gripe but some places will gouge you.
Dude that’s a really good way to look at it. I like this form of budgeting. If you break it down and aim for $3 a meal I think that’s a good idea hmm
That was back when fast food was affordable.
Yea I think companies know what they’re worth these day. The days of the dollar menu are over
My wallet feels your pain. Expen$ive!
Definitely a mistake, way over my budget for a few burgers and sharing fries and soda.
If it was $30 I would feel I’m paying extra for the convenience. Still expensive.
$40, I feel ripped off. Lucky I didn’t get two fries. Also, the menu was so confusing, you dont have time to check the prices.
Horse pucky. McD’s would be paying people to eat their offal if that was the case.
I’m aware of that, I go out to eat regularly.
