For anyone who has had mild to moderate improvement with neurofeedback for symptoms did you find you had to use it adjunctively to physical exercise and it would only work then? Or did you find you could use it alone. Any any stories positive and negative or neutral about it would be welcomed thank you!
Hard bodily work is generally very good for mental health and health in gener. Not sure what neurofeedback is tbh…best of luck figuring this out
That has never been offered to me.
I recommend the neurooptimal home system if you can afford it or to maybe do it with a trained professional in your area. Ask your Pdoc about it. It can be really good for anxiety and OCD. But I found this was really only beneficial if I kept up my excersise program and not only alone. I’m SZA depressive type
Annoying because my Pdoc at the time claimed that it was basically the cure to everything, and ended up being wrong in terms of true negative symptoms.
Why? I’m functioning fine without APs now. It turns out that therapy works pretty darn well.
@ozymandias Do you still get positive symptoms? If so what factors helped you draw the conclusion that life off meds is better then life on meds?
Yes. Got aliens buzzing in my ear right now.
I had worked my way down to what was basically a maintenance dose of Geodon. Probably less. My cardiologist wanted me off of it. My pdoc thinks I’m doing so well at managing my symptoms with what I learned doing CBT that it’s worth a go without APs. I have scrips for fallback meds if needed and this is done with medical supervision and the support of friends and family. They’re all watching for signs of me going sideways and it’s understood I’m going back on meds right away if that happens.
The side-effects of all the meds suck. With Geodon it was the akathasia even at lower doses. All of the other meds were worse for me. If I can go it without, so much the better. The voices irritate me less than the side-effects of the meds now.
I don’t suggest to anyone they screw with their meds on their own. Keep your pdoc involved and let him/her take the lead.
@ozymandias
Hey thanks for sharing I really appreciate it!
Side effects of meds really are horrible. Having good supports honestly makes the world of difference ![]()
