Negative symptoms

Hi there, has anyone ever had relief from the symptom anhedonia and the ability to think clearer?

Ive been struggling with these symptoms for 17 years. I work full time and that helps to a minor extent but that pleasure feeling doesn’t ever come back. Im unsure if my thinking gets clearer as when i feel relaxed i think my brain can think clearer. Unsure if thats true

Ive been able to get through my life by hoping that there will be a future medicine for these symptoms. Sarcosine looks promising and it looks like science is getting answers on how the brain works so hopefully there will be newer treatment in the pipeline.

I jjust want to see if anyone has had any of these symptoms relieved to give me hope so i can carry on because im really having a tough time
Thanks

Wellbutrin (an AD) has helped me in feeling plessure again. My pdoc prescribed it for negative symptoms.

I’m interested too in hearing if anyone has felt pleasure. All I ever feel is restlessness and trouble concentrating on a particular subject for a good amount of time.

I don’t know what helps with anhedonia. I try to be happy but sometimes I’m bored and not that happy.

Yes, I have almost recovered from negatives

I’ve had SZ for over a quarter of a century. I gave up on waiting for the next great med a long time ago. If you’re familiar with the Peanuts comic strip, that’s like CB trying to kick Lucy’s football. I have learned to rely on myself instead (I still take head meds, but with a value added approach). It’s working out well so far.

Helps mildly. VERY midly. If you’re looking for a GLORY HALLELUJAH moment, this won’t be it. Still, it’s worth having and taking. I use a combination of things to give me that bump.

Welcome to the forum @jay89

When you mean helped you. Do you get excited over things again? If you do an activity that you once found pleasure in do you get that same feeling now?

Have you completely recovered from negative symptoms? If so what did you use

Ive heard it helps people differently some loads and not as much

I’ve yet to find anyone IRL who got more than a mild bump from it.

Yeah, I take it off and on. It’s a mild enough effect that I don’t even bother with it sometimes. I’m also not aware of anyone who considers it “loads” of help. You may be viewing it a bit too optimistically.

Ive read a lot of reviews about how it helped them. I read one saying could go out again and enjoy being with people without feeling they want to leave. Ive read on here saying it helps people from mild to loads. Im just hoping that scientists now know what can help that area of the brain and work on that to bring new meds. Just trying to find hope

It just happened.
I didn’t do anything

I sometimes feel excitement again. Not too often though.

So you feel those feelings of excitement and if you do something you get pleasure from it?

Yes. If I do long walks I feel contentment afterwards.

Wow thanks thats giving me a lot of hope. What about socialising with people does it give help with that or being able to join in on activities

I don’t socialize much but since I’ve been on Wellbutrin I have had the energy to volunteer and I’m going to try working again in September.

Not everyone has good experiences with Wellbutrin. I believe @anon67051439 had to quit it because it made his positive symptoms worse.

I don’t want to get your hopes up too much. But it could be worth the try.
