Signed, sealed, delivered to my local reps. I have a feeling they’re in favor of treating mental illness, but I’ll let you all know if they respond.
I’ve filled it out as well.
Oh wow. There was recently a bill approved for 717 billion in military spending but the funds for schizophrenia research are cut. How terrible
What a shame. We need real innovation though. I don’t think a cure will come from government though. We need less regulation and more innovation. Maybe corporations will solve the schizophrenia problem. Hopefully, they won’t just keep us sick but cure us. There needs to be incentives for a cure. Exciting stuff coming out in technology and genetics, right?
And these pills are expensive but they need profits to continue innovating and releasing products. I think government could solve this issue if it was a priority though. Some people say a cure will never be possible. Maybe they are nearsighted?
One area that government funding can help with trials is with the already approved medications for other problems - statins and seizure meds and anti inflammatories, anti virals, antibiotics and many others - that have been identified as acting on schizophrenia relevant genes. Mostly drug companies won’t fund studies on those, because the meds are old and they won’t make a lot of money. So, while one of these meds is not going to cure schizophrenia, it might offer a relatively low side effect, quick to get in people’s hands, and cheap add-on to reduce symptoms. Especially in areas that aren’t well-treated now, negative and cognitive symptoms.
There’s also not much funding for dietary supplement testing, if it can’t be patented, it’s hard to come up with the money to prove whether it is useful or not.
I think the NIMH believes the breakthroughs coming from genetic research and cell and circuitry level studies of the brain are too far out to fund today. Since there are a handful of candidates discovered directly because of genetic research on the horizon for phase 1 studies, I don’t think this is true. Some of these are coming from universities and research groups, and small biotechs as well as the few big pharma players still interested in neuroscience.
Lets be positive…!!! Hope hope hope…!!!
I thought as a business man, he would understand from a non-medical point of view how much sz costs the economy?
I am not trying to monetise the issue, but sz destroys lives and costs a lot of money to treat. This is beyond belief, but I am not surprised based on some of the poor decision making coming from this nut case.
Have hope though people. The US is important, but there are scientists across the world in other countries who will continue this research.
Yes there are private doctor too…!!! They are talented then government doctor… usa need power and then intrested in solving the mental illness…!!!
I think sensitive government will come in usa to look at peoples health…!!
signed ,.,
We need a massive investment…!!
