My sleep is FINALLY normal again

Woooooo!! After the whole xyrem debacle this is a huge relief. And my sleep is even stable on half the dose of seroquel I was on initially! I realized during my weaning phase I only needed 25 mg to make me sleepy, and it does not cause the same strong grogginess & intense (often upsetting) dreams as the 50 mg did.

My sleep was very very disrupted initially even on the seroquel (and raising the dose didn’t help) so I took 1 mg of Ativan nightly with it for a week in an attempt to retrain my brain how to stay asleep, and it was successful and I am now off the Ativan sleeping through the night on my own. Awesome!!

Try to find a medication regimen and stick to it and don’t change it unless absolutely necessary.

Well I’m pretty happy with my current one so don’t intend on changing it currently!

It’s great to hear your sleep is doing well  . The modafinil still helping you from excessive sleep? I remember you recently posted that you finished up a holiday for the modafinil

Congrats on conquering the sleep deprivation demons. It’s tough to do.

Yeah! I take 200 mg to help me wake up in the morning (otherwise I continue to fall back asleep and can’t wake up until 2 or 3 pm) and then 100 mg around 2 or 3 pm when I feel the first dose wear off. That tends to last me until night time. I don’t take 200 mg because I find it keeps me up very late if I do.

That’s awesome @Anna. I’m happy for you. I wish I could get my sleeping patterns straight. I wake up too early almost every morning. My pdoc says he doesn’t know what to do about it. I’m already on a lot of sleep inducing medications.

My mom is having the same issue recently, she thinks it’s because she’s getting older. She has started waking up way too early and can’t fall back asleep. A friend recommended taking a magnesium supplement and she says now she sleeps like a baby. Maybe you could try it if you haven’t already!

Thanks for that tip. Yes, I am getting older. I am 58 now. How old is your mother?

She just turned 50 this year

Really?? I am older than your mother. I will get some Magnesium. What dose is your mom taking? Do you know?

Yeah everyone’s biological clock moves differently I guess!! Ha! She’s having a serious discussion w my brother right now but when she’s done I’ll ask her  I think it’s a powder she mixes in with water and drinks.

Thank you for promising to ask her about her dosage or the form of Magnesium that she uses.

My moms answer was “didn’t pay attention and just dumped some in” (nice mom) she says the person who recommended it to her said 100 mg but she felt that dose was too strong for her.

Hey so my mom had NO IDEA what she was talking about, the container will tell you how much to use. You start at like 125 mg like half a teaspoon then go up from there.

Do you think the AP (vraylar?) is helping you sleep ?

Good to know. Since summer I sleep only from 11pm. Last winter, just before 9pm, I go to sleep.

I was taking it in the morning so I don’t think so I only just started taking it at night. And my sleep didn’t start getting normal until I did the seroquel Ativan combo.

I can’t fully tell if it makes me sleepy or not. Narcolepsy and all…started taking it at night yesterday just in case.

I think I will end up on Olanzapine, I am hearing voices more and feeling agitated on Quetiapine.

I am glad you have gotten on a normal sleep schedule. I had been doing fine for a while, but now mine is messed up again. I am jealous of you!
