My situation

I live with my mom and her fiance. Her fiance is extremely strict when it comes to me having a job and working. I have my first 10 hour shift tomorrow and I’ve been having bad anxiety and depression. The 10 hour day is going to be extremely long and I know I’ll be anxious like I always am. I want to quit my job but Im scared he’s going to kick me out if I do that. I need the money too but I’m dreading the upcoming 10 hour shifts. What should I do? Im thinking of getting signed up for affordable housing

I think you should look into affordable housing and try the new job.

A ten hour shift doesn’t sound fun,

But work rarely is.

I feel like you should at least give it a try and see what you’re capable of,

You may surprise yourself.

What kind of work is it?

You should work until you absolutely cannot. If your emotionally at your wits end, then its time to start looking into disability.

Give it your best effort, because this might be your only shot at it.

It’s a general labour/warehouse position. Thanks for the advice both of you @GoldenRex @Ryanana

You can probably do it,

Just try and see what happens.

Warehousing isn’t bad work. It may be physical but it also can be repetitive and easy. That sort of work I’ve done well at in the past as my mind could wander and I could still do a stand up job!

Give it a go and sign up for the housing. I agree with that strategy.

@TheCanuk

I used to do 10 hour shifts in a general labourer-shipping/receiving position.

What got me through were those ‘5 hour energy shots.’

I dont know how sensitive you are with caffeine, but give it a shot (pun intended)

You’ll be more productive and you wont realize your working 10 hours.

Just take it about 4 hours into your shift with some food.

Hope this helps.

Caffeine is a no for me @Mr.Dre makes my heart beat fast.

I survived today, almost had a full blown panic attack at the start of the shift. I’m already dreading tommorow.

I used to work in a warehouse night shift for 8 hour shifts. Once you get used to it it goes by very quickly.

Ten hours is a lot. Can you get better hours? I haven’t filled out a job application in years but I remember most of them ask you what hours you can work and what days. It’s a little late for that but can you ask them for less hours?

At my age (58) I couldn’t work a ten hour shift. But if you are young and have that youthful energy maybe you could pull it off.

I quit my job. Too much anxiety for a 10 hour shift. Need to get my mental health right before I hold a job.
