My sister got me a turtle, I’m so scared its going to die. I’ve been up the trying to make a temporary home for him until I can get to a store and buy him what he needs.
This turtle is more responsibility then my cat and I don’t want to be mean and get rid of him because I already love him so much, but gosh darn! My anxiety is through the roof.
I feel like crying.
I think that turtles make good pets - why dont you read up on how to take care of them online.
Good luck with your new pet!
Hey, girl, there’s nothing to worry about!
Turtles can actually survive in a very rough conditions because they have sort of flexibility to environment. Just make sure not to over feed her and avoid hot water. Binge eating can really kill them.
Where do you keep it?
I was just doing a quick search and I found a lot of resources on turtle care.
It looks like Petsmart has a lot of Turtle tanks and starter kits…
Just like my fish… in the beginning it’s a lot to get started… as in learning curve and some of the gear your Tuttle needs…
but once that initial stuff is over… they are really easy to take care of… and lots of fun.
Did your sis get you a young turtle or an older one?
my sister brought the turtle home from college in a food container. so I got a bigger food container put some water pebbles in there and a floating lid so it can get up there and sit.
I’ve only had him for 48 hours, 12 of those hours I was in the hospital.
I looked up what he needed, it seems like a lot.
Lamps, special food, docks, rocks, a castle and 50 acres of land.
do turtles need vets?
A little turtle. A slider I think, but no red ears.
I’m going to go to petsmart and tractorsupply tomorrow to see if I can find some stuff for him.
Have you thought of giving him a name
Peebles 2.0 is his name, it was originally Micheal Angelo.
It’s ok. Get him a terrarium, a tank if he doesn’t have one. What kind of turtle is he? If he’s a water turtle you should have the majority of the tank filled with water with maybe a log or something for him to sit on. If he’s a tortoise you’ll want to give him a dry terrarium. Our turtles/tortoises all got heat lamps, which were put at one side of the tank so they could go to one side to warm up and the other to cool down.
Our neighbors were given a baby tortoise. It started out very small but they didn’t realize it was a breed of desert tortoise that grows very large!! Hopefully the same doesn’t happen to you. Get its species checked by a vet if you aren’t sure.
The water turtles got like a bug mix if I remember correctly, and the tortoises were fed salads. Also make sure to wash your hands every time after you handle your little guy. Turtles, especially water ones, are notorious for spreading disease.
It is a pet requiring a decent level of maintenance. (Having to clean out the tank-they get messy, making salads, etc) I hate it when people impulse buy pets that they know nothing about caring for, because then the animals suffer and die. I hate it even more when someone impulse buys a pet for someone else who now has this responsibility thrust upon them.
Find out what kind of species your turtle is and do a lot of online research is my suggestion. I hope my advice helped.
Anna has covered almost everything what’s important for a happy turtle. :))
I have mine for a year and she’s managing pretty well without castels and vets. I got a big fish tank, rock and a water filter because those creatures are dirty and stinky. Hah…didn’t know it before I got her.
she’s a bit flirty
Calm down, its okay to freak out. I had a turtle for awhile. I was forced to get rid of her. I got her as a baby, turtles make great pets. Yes they need heat lamps and uvb bulbs. It’s important to find s balanced turtle diet pellets. Some pet stores sell frozen specialized turtle food. Frozen blood worms are good too as a treat. The general rule for turtles is 10 gallons per inch of shell.
Peebles 2.0 Is An Amazing Name ,
Don’t Worry ,
With Your Love Peebles Gonna Be OK ,
But Why Naught Let 2.0 Walk Around The House Freely (???)
hmm ?
He might get lost. I have a very big home with lots of nooks and cranies. I’m too scared I’m going to look the other way and he’ll be gone.
I have a red eared slider…he’s 14 years old now.
When I got him he was tiny and didn’t grow much in his small tank, then we got it a bigger tank and it grew really fast and is much bigger now. Pick whatever metaphors for life you want out of that
