i’ve played it once. i bought it on a black friday sale 2 years ago. i thought im really going to teach myself to play this time and learn different songs and solos. well that didnt happen, when people come in they always say “o you play guitar” and im like, it mostly collects dust. i used to be inspired to play when i was a teenager and in my early 20’s. but lately i have no inspiration to play it. i keep thinking one of these days, im going to snap out my funk and get enjoyment out of it again, but that day hasn’t come. now it just reminds me, as it sits in my living room, of good intentions that never came to fruition.
It’s ok, I own a nice Fender acoustic guitar that I hardly play.
Maybe one day you will be inspired to play again.
Don’t lose hope.
My guitar gently weeps.
(Sorry, I couldn’t pass that up.)
Its never too late to start learning, but you have to want it. Try and set some basic goals. Learn some beginner songs that you like. There are songs out there that only have a few chords in them which are ideal first songs. I’m trying to think of some examples but its been a while for me.
Sell it on eBay. I just sold a video game for $125 on eBay, that was just sitting in my room and collecting dust.
Apathy sandpapers the mind into a paralysis.
I feel the same with many activities…
I bought some instruments but it’s hard play something and to feel pleasure.
My classical guitar also is collecting dust. First world problems. I think if I had less stuff perhaps it would be easier to hone in on the stuff I truly enjoy. But I am getting smarter little by little.
My fancy DSLR camera is sitting and gathering dust too.
I got rid of my vacuum cleaner. It was just collecting dust
haha good one.
I got an Ibanez electric guitar a few months ago.
Its also just been chilling in the corner of my room.
Ive been playing guitar for 11 years.
I really do recommend playing even if its just for like 10 minutes a day.
Not only do you get some practice in but for me
i get something to focus on and have an excuse to practice something obsessively and repetitively.
I just like having something to move my hands and fingers carefully while focusing on rhythm and the overall musical theory.
I get a kick out of it definitely. Im gonna play some right now actually lololol
The great bassist Victor Wooten once said (paraphrasing of course):
“There’s a process to inspiration. Next time you’re inspired, try to encapsulate what that feels like, every detail. Then, when you can’t summon the motivation, remember that feeling. It’ll carry you through forever.”
So, next time something inspires you, remember it. Take a snapshot of it in your life and make it yours. And then bring it back when you need it.
This is coming from an on-and-off guitarist of 12 years who recently found the love for it again about 6 years ago. Never too late man
I was the same, i had a few guitars but ended up selling them
i have a keyboard now and i had lessons but i’m not motivated anymore,
i am failed wanna be musician
I normally practice piano for 5 to 6 days a week for an hour at a time. But, since Co vid and the fact that my teacher isn’t coming over anymore due to covid, I’m slacking off. I haven’t practiced in over a week. And since my teacher is planning on doing all of his teaching online from now on, I’m not as motivated to practice like I was before. I think this may become a problem.
