Kitty is very cute but the ammonia smell means kitty doesn’t have enough clean boxes. There should be 1 box per cat plus 1 more. So if it’s just one kitty, she needs two boxes. 2 kitties, 3 boxes and so on. Kitty may also be urinating outside of the box in which case, more boxes and more frequent cleaning. If that doesn’t do it, try switching litters. Here’s a link about how to switch litters.

Ps. Never use bleach on cat boxes. It mixes with the ammonia in the urine and makes Chlorine gas which is real bad for your and kitties health.

Tell her to try Fresh Step clumping litter. It helps with the smell. Also she needs to clean the litter boxes a minimum of once per day

I use scent-free clumping cat litter for my two cats. It makes cleaning the litter box easier and lessens the cat pee smell. I dont use the scented litter because I’m allergic to perfumy scents and also becauae smelling cat pee plus a perfumy scent is worse than smelling just cat pee.

I rehomed the cat we had for the very same reason…the smell of the piss and ā– ā– ā– ā– .

I use Arm Hammer Clump Seal Cat Litter. It controls odors really well. Works great for my 2 cats.

Lol I started to put baking soda in the litter box. I don’t know the first thing about pets.

Urine-off works well on pee. Black lights can help identify the spots.

Has she been checked for a UTI? Definitely have her seen by the vet. That’s a common issue that can cause litterbox problems, but people rehome without ever thinking to take kitty to the vet. Also, is she declawed? If so, litter may be painful to her, especially if she’s more mature and arthritis has set in. Sand can help in these cases. Cleaning boxes at least once a day is important, too. And finally, kittens being trained and cats with issues sometimes respond to a litter that also contains an attractant, or you can purchase an attractant separately. Definitely get another box, as was recommended. It’s also recommended that each level of the home contain a box.
