My little doggy’s kidney failure and appetite

Hey everyone!

So my fur baby has chronic kidney disease. He’s almost 15. He’s in stage 3 kidney failure. Anyway he’s lost a lot of weight and I’ve been giving him subcutaneous fluids to flush out the toxins his kidneys can no longer filter.

Today, altogether, he ate 1/8 cup rice, 1/4 cup roasted sweet potatoes, 1/4 cup green beans, 3 oz of people chicken breast, 1/3 cup Core Wellness 95% beef (with superfoods), and a little over 1/4 cup Core Wellness salmon.

He also is now having a senior multivitamin I’m crushing and putting in his food once a day. So his appetite is increasing right now thankfully. Yay!

Hopefully it keeps up and he gains some weight.

Glad his appetite is increasing.

What kind of dog is he?

Might be best just to say goodbye. My last cat was suffering from the same and she was in so much pain. We had to send her over the rainbow bridge.

@shutterbug , he seems content in my lap and he enjoys sitting in the sun. So for now, he’s still ok. But if his quality of life gets bad, I’ll help him cross over.

I understand. This is one of the hardest things a person can go through. Many hugs to you.

That’s kind of a lot of food for such a small dog but I realize that you want him to gain more weight

I had to say good bye to one of my earlier dogs that I owned

He had stomach cancer and was passing bloody stools and he was losing weight rapidly

It was very hard to do this but I knew that it was the correct thing to do

He was suffering

And it was time

This was years back

Yes. According to the vet give him as much as he’s willing to eat because he has good days and bad days. He lost too much weight so we’re trying to help him regain it.

I’m sorry about your little fur baby. That’s so hard.

Thanks @anon92321969
This happened more than a decade ago
It was hurtful but he no longer suffered

I’m at peace with it now
