My 13 year old Shih Tsu is eating less

Today I bought him a different wet pate food to mix in with his kibble and he ate a lot more that way. I saved what was left and will try to get him to finish it later tonight.

I read a bunch of different articles that all say older dogs often eat less so since he’s still eating, I think for now he’s ok. He ate 2/3 of his food today with the pate mixed in.

He’s never been a typical dog eater though. He’s not a vacuum like some dogs are. His weight has been the same, to the ounce, for about 3years now I think.

Today he ate Fromm Lamb pate, along with his usual Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream (fish).

Yeah as dogs and cats get older their appetite sometimes decreases.

This is a normal occurrence

But if you notice changes in their health then it’s time for a vet visit

Other than eating less he seems fine. With the glucosamine and the cbd oil I give him, he’s now able to jump and run too so I think he’s ok. I’ll definitely keep an eye on him though. He’s my little baby

I hope he’ll be okay but I’m sure he will be

Yeah, senior chow is more calorie packed than regular cause older dogs eat less. It’s great that you are mixing it with soft food, too. Added calories are good.

Just check out his stool. If it shrinks you might have a problem and need to see a vet for bloodwork.

I had no idea that that’s the difference between regular adult food and senior adult food. I had assumed they made it easier to digest
