My friend wants me to take NAC

This is one of the meds I have been prescribed by my cardiologist. It leveled out some of my autism symptoms a bit, but it was not intended for that. Hasn’t affected any of my SZ symptoms. I mainly use it alongside nitro for angina.

Because it is used as liver detoxifing agent for example in acetaminophen overdose it it going is probably going to have medication interactions with the vast majority of stuff you take. There is no direct science on it’s medication interactions with antipsychotics I would not think. But yeah each antipsychotics is metabolise via different pathways and then there is differenntial distribution of genetics in liver enzyme metabolism. I wouldn’t be surprised if NAC effected some medication and not others and also some populations of people with specific liver metabolism genetics and not others.

Side effects in the supplement and research stage of drugs aren’t well understood and I would urge people to exercise caution. It is bettet to be risk adverse and take side effects for both drugs and medications at face value then to invalidate individual therapeutic response. It is not in the interests of pharmaceutical companies to publish additional side effects not caught during fda trials and no researcher is going to win a noble prize or endorsements from these companies by doing anti-pharmaceutical research.

There are promising research trials which indicate improvement in adjunctive nac use with antipsychotics. If NAC effected all the antipsychotics unilaterally in the same way you wouldn’t see this effect but yeah it is also an assumed side effect are or medication interactions that it can change clearance rates of medications.

I’ve found that NAC is also good for anxiety. It really calms you down

I stopped taking it after a month, never saw an effect. I don’t think I gave it a chance enough

Best to take it for 3 months plus. It also helps with Trichotillomania. And it’s good for removing mucus from chest infections and obviously good for the liver.

Typically, we like to leave inactive threads alone and just start a new thread instead. This is different than how some forums are run, but we do it this way because it frequently upsets users to have old topics revived when they are no longer relevant. It can also be frustrating to the person who revived the thread when they don’t get a reply, because the original poster is no longer active or no longer finds the topic relevant. Feel free to start a new thread on this topic.
