I should clarify that King is one of my favorite writers and was the reason I got into writing horror. He was my only favorite from second grade to my 20s. My favorite birthday gift ever as a kid was the collection of his books my uncle gave me.
But his books do not translate well to film. They’re written in a way to create the film in your mind…and Hollywood cannot compete with your own interpretation.
The jokes, innuendos, and dialogue that works in a book doesn’t roll off the tongue of an actor properly. Because King created a person and an actor is a mockery of that person.
well said @anon4362788 “It” was nothing like what I imagined the first time I read it. “the shining” rips off the book…there was some things that happened that weren’t in the movie I won’t say what but it was the scariest scene in the book to me.
