I just came back from seeing my family doctor and he basically said that the psych meds that I’m on now are going to kill me.
He strongly suggested that I switch to a more metabolic friendly AP.
He said that my very high triglycerides were caused by the Risperdal use.
He was also not happy with my weight gain.
He wants me to talk about the situation with my psychiatrist but he also said that he would communicate to her if need be.
Looks like I will be switching off of the Risperdal and on to a safer med.
I’m going to probably stay on the Depakote but I’ll see what she says.
I don’t want to die of a massive heart attack or stroke.
I’ve tried a lot of different APs.
Risperidone really works well for my mind but not for my body.
I am kind of scared to switch meds, because the last time I did that, I ended up in the Hospital.
It is cool to see that a few new meds have hit the market since getting on the forum. Basically Invega was the newest. Well latuda was out as well… All the same. Glad those are growing into their place as replacements for the generation before that. Like risperdone was to haldol…
I suspect there really will be a major break through in the next 10 years regarding schizophrenia treatment.
That is what happened to me too I was pretty upset because Risperidone was the first AP that really WORKED for me. (And the only one that ever has still have not found one that worked as well) Then my prescriber was like you WILL get breast cancer if you stay on this. Ugh. Life is not fair sometimes.
@Anna Anna. Risperdal was the first AP that worked for me also. Have you tried paliperidone. It’s basically just like risperdal but a more upgraded version. It may suit you.
Is that invega? Doc said I shouldn’t be put on that bc it is likely to cause the same prolactin issues that lead to me having to be taken off Risperidone
