I think that’s smart to be cautious. Med changes are horrid. I’m on my third different AP (Geodon) since starting care under my current pnurse in January 2022. It’s been a really bumpy ride.
You’re smart to wait on your pdoc’s advice. Hope it goes well, whatever you decide.
The doctor that put me on risperidone was a big risperidone fan. It was her AP of choice for her patients because she said it worked the best in the majority of cases.
Of course everyone is different, but she was apparently convinced.
Well if you’re on Risperdone and you are doing the best you have done for years the you don’t have to fix the wheel.
Trust me Risperidone and Zyprexa are the strongest among the atypically.
Your positives won’t be managed as well on the newer like Vraylar, rexulti or Latuda.
But all of those have a better side effect profile.
This is the best reason that I’ve been on Clopixol for 27 years. It kept me from getting placed on Clozapine.
So if it ain’t broken why fix it.
If something can go wrong it will go wrong.
Never touch a running system.
I haven’t found a better med than risperidone. I don’t think I will. I have tried Abilify, Latuda, Zyprexa, Seroquel and Risperidone. One pdoc prescribed me Clozapine, I did the heart testing for it but refused to do the weekly blood tests.
risperdal had such sexual side effects though…made me suicidal…my pdoc was a big believer in risperdal too…now I"m on generic prolixin (fluphenazine), 10 mg morning and night…lost all my weight on this med…love it.
Risperdal-Geodon combination was the only thing that even began to touch my psychosis. Then, adding a bit of Seroquel to the mix is what finally did the trick to get rid of it. I’m not messing with it.
