My dog barking is making my niece cry

My niece is here for a couple days. She is autistic and loud noises bother her. My dog is staring out of the window and barks every time a dog, cat or person walks by. I keep having to get up and cover her eyes or block her view of the window so she is not barking. It’s really getting annoying.

Too many people and animals out today!

Do you have noise cancelling headphones she can wear?

Pandy’s question is a good idea.

Is there a blanket that you can cover the widow with, just temporarily?

I have no idea if they are noise cancelling or not but she is actually using headphones to listen on her tablet.

Also can you enclose Maggie in another room away from the window temporarily until your niece leaves.

I suppose that might work but I think my dog would just move the blanket our of the way to get to the window. She just nudges the blinds when we close them and looks out so I imagine that she would do the same with a blanket. I suppose I COULD remove the stairs to the bed where she looks out the window but that would just make her whine because she is used to being able to look out it.

The situation has temporarily solved it self since my dog has moved out to the kitchen, away from the window to the front yard.

This is true, she generally has free run of the house though except for my mom’s room and her computer room. If it continues, I will probably stop her from getting to the window. She may whine but it’s better than my niece crying.

They’re useless with barking dogs (or upstairs neighbours boinking), trust me on this. They’re good for walking in the wind and such where they can take out a constant, sustained noise. Garden variety ear plugs are your friends here.

That’s a good idea!

It makes sense, now that I think about it. When I share a room with my sister when we travel together, that woman snores like a freakin’ buzzsaw. This last time we shared a room, I wore those waxy, moldable ear plugs and I couldn’t hear a damn thing. She had to hit me in the leg to wake me up.
