My son was recently diagnosed bipolar disorder. (I feel like its my fault because I’m bipolar too) anyway, he knows just the right buttons to push so he got up today and started in. I don’t know how to deal with him. I feel so bad but I’m so frustrated at the same time. He thinks my husband and I are putting meth in the sugar and coffee and we’re throwing drugs in his eyes. I told him that was crazy he kept going on about it. I said don’t drink the coffee or sugar then. It got pretty bad. He started throwing things so I called the cops. I just don’t know what to do. He won’t take his meds. He doesn’t see a problem. I try to tell him but he doesn’t believe it. He believes we are drugging him.
Sound an like more than Bi polar no?
At one point he was hearing whispers and he referred to her as grandma talking threw the TV. Something about the CIA. He makes life for me really hard. He screws with me. It is the meanest thing. I just can’t take it.
I think you are right but he was in the hospital in November. The Dr diagnosed him bipolar. He was in the hospital 10 days.
If he is still acting this way and still won’t take his meds, he may need to go back to the hospital. Once he is on a regular routine and is on medication that is working, he will hopefully be more amenable to taking his pills so that he can live a “normal” life. And I, too, would question the lone diagnosis of bipolar.
Well he’ll be 18 soon and can move out and do what he wants.
He has no where to go. I already told him, if he wants to leave, there’s the door.
He doesn’t go to school or have a job.
Have you asked him why he thinks the sugar is drugged?
There is a family forum on this site. Let me see if I can find the link.
He thinks I put it in there. I have never and would never do Meth. That’s just crazy.
I said it here because it making my symptoms flare up
I thought bipolar disorder involved rapid oscillation between depression and manic states. Your description of symptoms included references to delusions and paranoia. I’m not a psychiatrist… I have late onset schizophrenia with a high level of insight into my illness… but you need to get a second and third (maybe) opinion / diagnosis of your son. He may just need antipsychotic meds and the support of his family and friends and he’ll be ok. Don’t give up on the diagnosis!
bipolar 1’s can get psychosis too
Can we join this also ?
I would ask a moderator. I think so. @Ninjastar
Only people with a loved one who also has psychosis can join the family forum.
