My son was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia. He is very hard to get a long with. He’s always angry, aggravated. Very verbally abusive. For example this morning he woke up. He’s been drinking a lot of water. I decided I’ll get him 4 24 packs of water… I told him this and he flipped out. Started talking ■■■■ about water then went on to me smoking cigarettes and how I’m a idiot and on and on about me smoking cigarettes. We had to come get blood work done but I’m scared to go home now. Afraid of what will happen… He flipped out yesterday. Was screaming, throwing things. I went outside and called the cops. He picked up before they got there. The cops did nothing. I don’t want to do this with him. I just don’t know what to do it’s like full out war EVeRYDAY
Yes sz mf is complex… anyway dont lose hope…!!! He will understand one day soon…!!
I would have him committed as a danger to others. They can get him on good meds
PS. There is a forum on schizophrenia.com for family members of szs can you direct her @Ninjastar?
I’m bipolar. Don’t want to talk to Normie’s who don’t get it.
The only people who can commit him is the crises workers because of his insurance. The psychiatrist said he needs hospitalized. Called a ambulance to take him to hospital during his appointment with her. They still didn’t admit him because they believe he isn’t a danger to himself or anyone else. I’m terrified of him and what he might do. Things r really bad.
I hope things get better for you. This must be hard
What meds is he on? Definitely he needs some adjustment. Either the AP dose is too small or they need to switch him on another AP.
Point is, schizophrenics rarely become violent unless seriously paranoid and feeling like their life is in danger or that they’ve somehow been double-crossed by everyone.
This is unbearable! Thanks.
He is only on a very low dose of risperdal. The damn psychiatrist says she doesn’t know if it’s drug induced or a mental illness. Unfortunately he did try meth this past Saturday but it was his first and only time. This ■■■■ started like 2-3 years ago. Christopher says the hallucinations started a year ago but he’s not good with time… His drug history is, he tried shrooms 3 years ago. He tried cocaine close to 2 years ago. CLEARLY these things wouldn’t still be effecting. Granted the meth can do it but he just recently tried it. Clearly not it. Yes, he thinks everyone is against him. Very paranoid and delusional. I need help. I need saved. I need a miracle. I’m afraid he’s going to kill me.
If his care workers need to be the ones who have him committed to a hospital, is there any way you can talk to them about what’s going on and ask them for help?
The only people that can commit him is the crises workers. It’s because of the insurance. We are on welfare. For him to meet the requirements he has to have a plan in place to hurt himself or someone else in the immediate or near future. The psychiatrist called an ambulance to escort him to the the hospital to be evaluated for hospitalization. Psychiatrist also sent notes with paramedic to help get him hospitalized. The psychiatrist said many times, she is very worried and he needs hospitalized but didn’t do anything about the medicine. I told her the medicine had been working but it’s such a low dose. Of course it will need adjusted. They did not hospitalize him. I feel so hopeless. The psychiatrist wants to have some tests ran. Said Christopher isn’t making any sense and she didn’t believe Christopher understood her. I took Christopher this morning to have blood work drawn. We go back to psychiatrist on August 8 at 9:30. I guess we will see what happens then. It’s going to be a very long, hard 5 days. Is the anger, irritability, aggravation not a symptom of schizophrenia?
I’ll let other members here have their say too, but from my experience anger and irritability are not often pervasive in schizophrenia. Rather, sufferers tend to become withdrawn and avoidant because they are quietly wrestling with voices inside their head and feeling scared.
You should definitely rule out other possible causes, like syphilis or brain tumor or early-onset dementia (the latter is very rare).
Sorry I am not a doctor so I won’t further insist on him taking more risperdal. The psychiatrist knows better.
My ex bf had Paranoid SZ, and he was very agressive and violent. He basically channeled any emotion into anger because it was easier to understand and deal with for him.
Also, he took everything as a provocation, and assumed everyone was out to provoke him.
