Musical instrument to aid recovery?

I picked up an electric keyboard recently.
Do you think it could help? I was thinking it could help preventing cognitive decline, and for some people maybe it would make you interested in something again, thus making negatives less painful.

What musical instrument do you play/or would like to play?

I’d love to be able to create music. I’d love to be able to play the keyboard. But I can’t lol. I was very inspired by 80s synthpop.

I think it’s a great outlet, and yes, I believe it can keep the mind sharp

Heck ya! I wish I was musically talented. I have an acoustic guitar. It’s very therapeutic and keeps you sharp.

I’ve been studying piano for 13 years. And yes, it keeps one sharp. It keeps me occupied with an interest too. And I believe it’s therapeutic.

Its the only thing that keeps me going some days. It definitely also helps me think more clearly, and can even drown out the voices if Im really in the zone, Id totally suggest going for it

I play guitar plus a little piano, and lately trying to get into producing to try and create songs out of it

Sounds like a good idea!

If I had the elbows for it I would get into playing some kind of instrument like the guitar. Feels like I’m missing that in my life.

It takes your whole brain to sight read music. Yes, it’s very good for cognition. Piano requires the most.

For therapy I play the Native American Flute. Very easy to start.

I play piano and it really helps me with my recovery. I always say sometimes emotions can’t be explained with words, but music is always honest. Just my opinion.

I play the piano by ear and memory. I would like to have lessons. I also use music software. I don’t play as much as I used to when I was a teen. I used to learn loads of songs as a teenager…

I sing and play guitar. Well I did but my strings either snapped or are just too old. I can play piano in chords but have a hard time reading music now.

I have an interest in the native American flute. I find it sounds very relaxing and soothing. I will have to check it out.

I currently own a guitar, french horn, and flute. I play flute, french horn, and guitar best in that order. I can play other instruments as well. We ordered a violin off ebay, and while it’s intended for my daughter, I’ll be interested to see how much I can remember.

I play guitar, bass, piano, drums, and sing. I do it to an extent every day. It can have a huge effect on your mood. I also think learning in a musical way helps keep your brain in good shape. Keep playin’! :guitar:
