Mood Stabalizer

I need to be put on a mood stabalizer my pdoc took me off lamictal and said i should be fine with a antipsycotic but i was just wondering which ones have worked for you so i can get a idea to ask him for it?

Abilify was the most useful in fighting my depression. Unfortunately it came with so many bad and intolerable side effects that I can’t happily recommend it. But it could work great for you!

Well if you can’t happily recommend it, but you are recommending it… it suggests that you are unhappily recommending it.

Unhappily recommending an antidepressant seems counterproductive.

Some of the newer antipsychotics have mood stabilising properties which might be enough for you. If your moods are still extreme, there are several choices, I’ve been on several… sodium valproate, which is effective but with many possible side effects, lithium worked much better but you have to have regular blood tests to check the levels. Lamotrigine is effective if depression is the main problem, but isn’t much good for mania. It depends on your mood cycle really which one works best.
