I am schizoaffective bipolar type and my therapist has me charting my moods. I was wondering if anybody else who is sza has done this and if so, did it help?
I used a daily mood app and thought it was very helpful… it really is easy to think things will always go right or things will never get better when you have a streak of a week or so in either direction. I think I have a tendency to overestimate the number of bad days i have statistically if I don’t track them.
Probably don’t need a very sophisticated tracker… can probably just rate your day on a scale 1-5 and keep stats on that. I think I stopped using my mood app only because it was eating up too much of my phone memory.
My therapist printed out some copies of a simple chart for me to use. I get what you’re saying about overestimating the number of bad days. I think i do that, too. It’s easy to do when you feel like things are never gonna be better.
Hm… I don’t even officially have bipolar, but I looked it up and I want that! It seems useful.
I use the app Daylio and find it really helpful. It’s free.
I only have an old-fashioned telephone, and on my work smartphone I can’t install such apps. But you inspired me to make my own excelsheet. I started to keep track of things. Hope I’ll stay disciplined with it. I’m not the strongest at that. I hope to keep track of things like mood, anxiety, psychosis and energy level. Also linked to what I did that day and whether I slept well and ate healthily. Perhaps I’m being overenthusiastic now and will only keep up with the good work for a few days…but well… thanks anyway for the good idea!
I don’t have a smartphone either. I have what i call a dumbphone haha, just an old cell phone that calls and texts and not much else. Hope your symptom charting helps you. This is the first time i’ve done it and it’s working out so far.
Haha ah! Nice! That’s the phone I have as well! Except for my closest friends (my friends are usually a bit different than average) I don’t know anybody who doesn’t own a smartphone! Good that the mood charting helps for you as well…
iMoodJournal is what I use. It’s pretty in depth and useful
I’m not sza and they have me mood charting. They want to see what’s depression and what’s negative symptoms. So far it’s only been a few days, so I’m not sure yet how much it’s helping.
I’ve been giving the mood charting several times to see whether or not I had bipolar disorder. I haven’t been asked to do it since I’ve been diagnosed.
