I just purchase and download whatever’s on DC101’s playlist, including new stuff. I pay by the song, never albums.
The DC 101 of the Washington DC area? If so, I used to listen to that station and 99.1 WHFS non-stop as a teen in the mid-90s. Kinda preferred WHFS, but DC 101 played a lot of Nine Inch Nails which I liked a lot.
Every generation has trouble with earlier ones when they reach middle age.
As with anything, there are exceptions. Usually underappreciated and unpopular, and most importantly unlikely to be in your Youtube feed, but still dancy: Zebra Katz (hey, one of us??!), Die Antwoord (likely), CupcakKe. If you want to dig really deep go for free jazz.
Thanks, but I’m saving Hell for after I die.
Going through it, why wait? It’s the way out.
Woohoooo! Someone mentioned WHFS! That station was legendary, but it got changed overnight into latin rock. Then later it changed I think to Christian music? I regret I never got to attend an HFStival or a DC101 Chili Cookoff.
Yeah, I used to live in Northern VA just outside of DC and DC101 was my fave station. Originally they played harder rock like Metallica and Pantera, and I listened to WHFS instead, but once WHFS went down, DC101 started emulating their format. You started hearing things like Weezer and Sublime a lot more often.
They still play Enter Sandman every now and then though, and of course some NIN.
I don’t think necessarily disturbing, but hopefully something interesting and surprising.
Since I am a person from the internet WFMU is all I need.
I just use Iheartradio.
As a general rule disturbed people like disturbing art.
