Missdiagnosed

I feel I was missdiagnosed. I get a treatment for sz and everything I’ve read so far leads me to belive I have bipolar manic.
That was my first diagnose two years ago, but recently while in the ward sz diagnose was put, by another doctor.
For sure one is not better than the other one, but the treatment is a bit different.

Any input what should I do about it? The last pdoc was really stubborn, but seems somehow I got stuck with it.

I was diagnosed SZ couple of times when I was not in good condition. But most of the other times when I had issues was diagnosed Bipolar manic type. I am sticking with treatment for Bipolar I. But I see myself as SZA as sometimes symptoms similar to SZ and other times Bipolar when mania strikes. Anyhow most medicines work the same way so not much to argue on it. It depends on the case history and the doctor as well.

Yeah probably is like you say. I made a thread for Bp just to see what meds do they take.
I feel there’s a fine line between sz and bp and looks like people with sz seem to be a bit better than those with sz and bp. Sz and bp is like double treatment.

The label matters less than the symptoms and the treatment. I can tell you that I have been around this community since 1999 and from what I can see, most of the people who thought they were misdiagnosed, weren’t.

I have been dx’d with a lot of things, current official dx is sza, but the current doc believes the psychosis might be stress related and may also have autism… dx can change over time

You must have a pdoc that really cares for you. Usually once you got dx with sz they never change the sz, unless they add something.

Most people in my family with mental illness got misdiagnose with Schizophrenia and they end up having bipolar with psychotic features.

Edit: Easy mistake to make

How did they figure it out in the end?
Did they get the meds changed?

I never see the same doc more than twice but I’m seeing this current one the second time. I got diagnosed with sz 13 years ago. It’s changed to sza bipolar and back to sza. Finally they are also considering autism which is odd that they’ve missed it I’m 38

I can not belive it. I guess there’s a difference in meds. 13 years is a lot. I am sure pdocs try the best, but not all of them care.

My aunt change Pdoc years later and got diagnose with bipolar with psychotics features, she on a mood stabilizer that prevent her from going into mania which trigger her psychosis.

Edit: I’m not sure about details about my uncle.

Sz in mix of diagnosis it may vary from time to time , ifyou find the best meds for the season i feel you are good to go with the meds, i too feel i dont have sz but when symptoms show up i am like not again.

@anon25873142 i am diagnosed with sza and autism, I wasn’t diagnosed with autism until I was 24 and that was because I brought it up with my therapist and he referred me to a specialist to get assessed. If you’re a woman especially it can be easy to miss in our age group. They’ve expanded quite a lot of what autism is so going undiagnosed for so long isn’t uncommon for “high functioning” autistics
