Milestones: when you are 26 years old and the teen cashier at the gas station calls you "sir"

It’s a weird feeling. Occasionally even now when it happens it’s funny in a way.

I’ve been called…

Sir

Boss

Chief

Dude

Hon

Captain

Son

…and many more. I find the immigrant employees at Gas Stations and Convenience Stores call me ‘boss’ and ‘chief’ the most for some reason.

Lol, yeah, I like boss. The older guy at the board & care always called me boss. I guess it’s better than “numnuts”.

Recently a guy in his early 20s, standing just in front of me suddenly said “what’s up old man”?
I froze. I am only 34.
Turns out he was addressing another (older) person passing behind me

My friends beautiful mother used to call me hon.
In sixth grade it made me want to marry her and settle down.

I call everyone sir/ma’am if they are working. Regardless of age.

When I was a young boy I got lousy service from this guy at a Chip Wagon. He had puffy lips, so I said…

“Hey Fishlips! Gimme my money back!”

Then my Mom pulled into the parking lot to pick me up, and the guy was so insulted, he told my Mom that I had called him Fishlips!

My Mom thought this was hilarious and laughed all of the way home in the car.

Mom: “You were right! He did look like a fish!”

Yea Patrick sometimes comparing a human to an animal is an insult to the latter.

When I was a cashier, a man once told his kid to “give the candy to the lady so she can scan it”.
I was 22. Way too young to be a lady!

I’m usually called: “Ma’am”. I’ve been called “Sir” many times before too, especially when I had my buzz cut. When I was younger, I was called “Miss” or “dear” or “honey” or “sweetie” or “lady” or “baby”.

I’m usually “miss” but occasionally I’ve gotten ma’am, and it messes with me when I get it. lol

My niece called me sir when I was 20. I told her that I am not a sir. She insisted I am. Feisty little girl. I’m not sure where she gets it from. Probably her Dad.

I was an officer in the military. Got commissioned at 23 so I got called sir all the time. It bothered me.

I told my son not to call me sir and my wife freaked out on me. Had to take back my words and live with it. He still calls me sir today and he is nearly 25.

Some things you just have to live with I guess.

I thought it was weird the first time I heard someone refer to me as a man lol. I get a little annoyed when people call me boy. I think it’s a thing younger guys call each other though.

The only time someone called me sir was when I was on the street and some kids ask me “do you have money for us, sir” but mostly I been called “pibe” that means youngster or boy or something…

I get called “buddy” by so many people.

I get “big guy” when I gain weight. One guy used to call me “hoss”. But no one else ever did.

I get the sir quite a bit but when I worked at the liquor store my thoughts were buy your ■■■■ and get out. I was nice to people but to those who were major asses I had no problems telling them to piss off.
