Metformin experiences?

Does anyone have experience with Metformin? I’m prescribed 1000mg twice daily to try and off set the weight gain side effects of my meds.

I stopped taking the Metformin for a while, but recently decided to try it again.

Does anyone notice the nausea side effect from Metformin? I mean I suppose that’s one way to lose weight if I’m nauseated all the time.

Useless for me. I had to try it and fail on it to get the approval for Saxenda.

I dont think the nausea usually lasts too long. I have been on the same dose as you of metformin for a long time. I would agree with shutterbug to an extent that it seems to be the least effective of all the diabetes meds I take. It is supposed to be good for you, though, I believe. I have heard of people just taking metformin for the hell of it who dont have diabetes or anyhthing for life extension I believe. SOmething to do with blood sugar control, maybe? IDK. Was awhile back. Anywho. To me it doesnt seem super potent like the other diabetes drugs I take and I could see how some people might say it does nothing.

I take 2000 mg of metformin a day. I never had nausea. It didn’t help me lose weight. But it kind of helps with my blood sugar lowering my A1c.

I was on 2000mg daily of Metformin for the longest time until recently.

I got off of it because I’m also on another diabetes drug, Mounjaro, which is more effective at controlling my blood sugar levels

I may go back in Metformin but at a lower dose because it supposedly extends one life

In the start of taking Metformin decades ago I lost a good 20 pounds

But that weight loss only lasted 2 months

I’m taking Metformin 1500mg a day. 3 doses of 500mg. No nausea.

You could try the extended release version of Metformin or take 500mg 4 x daily. That might help.

I was given it strictly for weight loss. I am careful about my diet so my blood sugar is good. Weight just does not drop off me easily at all since the Zyprexa. I am certain that demon drug fxxxed my metabolism for life.

Thanks for all the responses. I got so nauseous last night that I threw up in the middle of the night. I’m gonna try taking it with food to see if that helps because that was so miserable.

I take 1000 mg in the morning and 1000 mg at night too. I also take mounjaro and my A1C recently went down from 10.3 to 5.8.

I took 1000mg of extended release Metformin for about a year.

At first it was great. But the longer I was on it the worse off my stomach was. It became extremely undesirable due to side effects, even at lower doses. I no longer take it. I don’t take any diabetes meds now

My A1C is 5.6 off of the medication. I’m sure I don’t need Metformin but I’m anxious to lose weight. So I’m kinda not mad about the nausea side effect right now but I know that’s a bad thing

Apparently taking more Metformin than you’re supposed to can make you very sick. I’ve been throwing up several times a day since Friday. Just threw up my dinner then again threw up my snack. I was taking like 3 1000mg tablets a day instead of 2
