Has anyone taking risperidone & a testosterone booster ?
I’ve heard anecdotal stories that testosterone can make psychotic symptoms more severe. I don’t know if any studies have been done on it.
wow that’s interesting.
I have PCOS.
But yeah u say it’s anecodatal atm.
I have this impulsive (but not proven as far as I’m aware) belief that testosterone is linked with stress (excessive testosterone)
I wonder if that’s true
I don’t know
I was just curious because me & a friend were talking & he said most men over 35 have low t, & said he had great success when treating his… Of course he is not schiz like me but your thinking makes since because 99% of the time when my testosterone is high (post sexual activity) I am very edgy days on end.
i would stay away from anything artifical. I woudlnt even recomend boosting it but if you are going to try it atleast do it naturally
I will say I have a friend who takes testosterone and an antipsychotic. He needs to go for monthly blood tests, but he’s physically fine.
A few years ago I tried one of those OTC testosterone boosters, and it made me bleed from my bowels. No joke. Took me a while to figure out why I was bleeding, thought I was having another ulcerative colitis flare, even had a colonoscopy done.
Now I cringe at the thought of a guy taking one of those.
I was doing some reading about it before. Theres theories that testosterone plays a roll in the development of psychosis. Being that it happens at the time where males anyway are developing.
I actually took testosterone for a while while i was heavily into working out. I gained good muscle but didnt loose any weight because of the meds. But tbh it mostly made me feel like crap.
Not sure what a testosterone booster is. The field of testosterone supplements is complicated, at times expensive and may not actually fulfill your needs. Over the counter concoctions may contain testosterone precursors but there is little effect on serum testosterone. A multi-million dollar industry which preys on the common male desire to be “more masculine.” Save your money. Only the real material works.
The only way to “boost” your testosterone is through a healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition, exercise, and avoidance of toxins like alcohol and tobacco. If your testosterone level is tested and is indeed low for your age, a qualified urologist or endocrinologist may prescribe testosterone supplementation.
It is also important to note that excess testosterone gets converted to estrogen in your body. So if you try and boost it, and it wasn’t low, you could end up with boobs.
Lol. That last part was so blunt .
Hopefully I don’t have low t as I’ve already got mild gynecomastia from puberty. Will get my blood test results on friday…
I’m Checking out my testosterone soon with my routine bloods because I want to know just how high they may be. That’s interesting stuff on this thread though
I don’t think boosting your t to normal levels will affect your schizophrenia at all. If you have low t then take the booster.
