Is this true or not?
When they first doubled my dose of Wellbutrin from 100 X 2 to 200 X 2 I was getting a little schizy, but then things leveled out for me.
depends on the meds and your make-up.
Vyvanse adderall may cause it
“depends on the meds and your make-up.”
Are you saying if her blush clashes with her foundation, this could cause psychosis?
Antidepressants can cause psychosis in certain vulnerable patients
Seroquel caused me to go bananas and also have auditory hallucinations. I also saw things when I closed my eyes. I don’t hear or see things when unmedicated. I’m on abilify now, and am stable.
Seroquel made me see glowing floating people in my room at night.
It was very bizarre.
when I was on abilify then fanapt then risperidone the third time I saw things while on all those meds worse than before. I’ve sworn off risperidone to ever try it again I don’t care how hard the doctor pushes it.
This is a great question.
Yes. They can. The way some meds, newer ones, for schizophrenia, well the way they work is by actually increasing dopamine, the long-chronicled perpetrator of schizophrenia’s positive symptoms, and the stuff gets fishy and fast really quick.
with drugs that decrease dopamine, there is up-regulation of dopamine, which means the meds actually make more receptors for dopamine, because the drugs (antipsychotics) have made dopamine flow less intense. That means if you keep taking the meds, you’re okay. If you stop, you’re gonna be sicker than ever.
Now abilify, a “partial agonist” binds to dopamine receptors well. It doesnt really go through well. But it does a bit on average. and it can go through a lot with some people. It sort of blocks it by just sitting in it nicely and not having much activation. THIS CAN GO WRONG, IT CAN ACTIVATE and then you are more psychotic.
in short, some “partial agonists” can backfire. Ask your doctor if you are being given a partial agonist and what the risks involved are. I am not a doctor…just a student.
You need to be stable with low psychosis before even thinking of an antidepressant. I just talked about antipsychotics. They are the real concern.
I am on a very new drug, a partial agonist which blocks (sits in the binding site and blocks it) nicely. It is called Rexulti, or brexpiprazole.
Thanks for replying with such useful information. I’m on INVEGA 3mg. Are you saying that if I stopped taking the meds I would be sicker than I was initially before being medicated?
absolutely, yes you almost certainty would.
Thank you @mortimermouse
Abilify triggered psychosis in me.
I was nervous about trying Vraylar, because it too is a partial dopamine agonist, like Abilify.
But so far its not triggering psychosis - it is more of an antagonist than Abilify is.
