Yes, sleeping too much is better than having insomnia. However, it disrupts my work and social life. I cannot join activities in the morning. In the long term, I need to have a normal sleep cycle.

I totally agree. I hope you adjust and get into a normal sleeping pattern @queenie_lai.

I’m on the combination of olanzapine and mirtazapine and I’m sleeping too much.

Hi @queenie_lai!
Welcome!

I take Latuda and Lithium. The Latuda makes me tired, but I take Modafinil in the morning and that gives me energy.

I definitely need to change something or add something to pep me up a bit. Also nearly every moment of recent days has been mentally agonising so something else is also not right about being on these particular meds.

welcome to the forums queenie_lai…side effects from meds are a real pain…I have the same problems

Welcome @queenie_lai !

I’m on Risperdal, Depakote, Zoloft and Ativan (prn). I’ve been on a lot of antipsychotics and have had either side of the spectrum. Either sleep too much or have horrible insomnia. I think it’s all about finding what works for you, how it’s scheduled, etc.

Yes the biggest challenge of antipsychotics is finding one with side effects you can tolerate. I find that when I take rexulti earlier in the day, it does not effect my sleep as much as when I take it at night or late in the afternoon/evening.

Asenapine
Ziprasidone
Risperidone and
Lurasidone
Blonanserin

Are atypicals which have medium sedation. Risperidone is the cheapest and widely available. Ziprasidone is somewhat similar.

Haloperidol also tends to cause less sedation.

If one medication makes it hard to sleep, maybe consider a sleep aid. Melatonin, lorazepam or anthistamines, like the atypical antipsychotic Quetiapine.

Quetiapine is also less sedating than Olanzapine.

It leaves the body faster than Olanzapine.

No official medical advice here.

I have just seen my psychiatrist. He has prescribed me with 2.5mg abilify and 40mg lurasidone (latuda) daily. Hope this works for me.
