Media saturation

I kind of think we are almost at an inflection point in the world where we are so saturated with constant media that very little is impressive or surprising.

For example extreme sports videos on youtube.

There is clip after clip after clip of the next crazy stunt but there is so many that it all seems mundane.

So many content creators seems to try to go for shock value or click bait to get your attention.
I fully reject that type of content lol

What do you think about media these days?

We’re probably over stimulated. I think that’s why so many people are attracted to that off-grid lifestyle. They can sense the need to escape “the world”.

Yeah agreed people are looking for a disconnect from it

I dont exactly look to escape it but im learning to find the right balance of it.

I haven’t been watching much media lately. Haven’t been watching the news. Haven’t been watching any TV and I usually only look on youtube when I’m looking for a clip for the forum or something. I have had almost zero media exposure over the last few weeks.

Is this a good thing? Am I in the dark? IDK.

Edit: Not including this site, of course

Anything with a “social” component I believe does way more harm than good:

  • Altering face-to-face communication

  • Shortening attention spans

  • Spreading misinformation rapidly

  • Negatively affecting mental health

  • Changing the cultural landscape to value shallowness and “aesthetics” over truth

And also, not to mention that this is all recent technology, therefore we don’t know the potential psychological and societal implications that exposure to this type of content may cause.

Nothing wrong with a platform that allows humans to connect with each other and share stuff… Just kinda took a really hard turn for the worse, and is basically highlighting and glorifying the ills of society at large (in my opinion, anyway).

Do not like. At all.

Let’s burn the site down and sing songs around the fire!

There was a campaign my parents movement used to do out on the streets

‘media corruption, society destruction…’

Yeah I think we are seeing a lot of boundaries pushed maybe in ways they shouldn’t.

We get great things and also bad things from the worldwide constant connections

I try to see social media as a tool but it really does require self control to do that.

I find video content to be the most saturated for me these days.

Sorry that’s slighlty random. I don’t really know what else to add.

Perhaps if the news was showing some more positive stuff in the world

I dont keep up with the news. I just check out a few sports clips on youtube but even that is feeling pretty mundane these days.

I pretty much just use this forum and then retreat into my ostrich in the sand world

Imma trying to find that balance, too. More walks outside, less screen time.
