what are some med options for me, zyprexa was the most effective for me but caused too much weight gain and also high cholesterol and sleep paralysis every night, geodon messed with my heart and knocked me out every morning and made my mood horrible and i would be violent and angry,
right now im on abilify 10 mg and my mood is really good but i am hearing voices 24/7 and that is driving me crazy, i am also eating like 2000-2500 calories a day and some days even more but when i was on geodon i could easily only eat 1200 or 1500 i havent gained any weight because i am eating at maintanence not over eating but if a higher dose makes me more hungry i might gain weight i dont really know if i want to get the dosage increased because i have seen multiple people saying abilify didnt really help with hallucinations, maybe because it is a partial agonist idk but i dont want side effects with no benefits
but if i do get the dose increased and it doesnt work out
what meds are there that wont make me gain a ton of weight and eat all day long like zyprexa or cause other horrible side effects
what has worked well for you i know different meds work differently for different people but i need a med that will get rid of the voices with not too many side effects
Geodon is what helped me. There’s a new ap out called “Latuda”. Some people have been giving it good reports. You might check into some of the newer ap’s.
Most of my weight gain was from risperdal but you need to be pro active with everything. We are all so different!
Saying that. Risperdal is great for positive symptoms for most. Can elevate prolactin but it’s usually a good first choice drug for those in psychosis!
i feel like there wont be much difference from 10 to 15 but i will stay on it until i am on a higher dose i am just considering my options if it doesnt work out
Trying to find an AP with not many side effects is like looking for a zebra with not many stripes. You just have to decide which side effects are tolerable and which aren’t. Pick your poison. Would you rather be sedated or have anxiety? Gain weight or not have your symptoms be fully covered? The choices are ■■■■but its all we’ve got right now.
Risperidone worked the best for me but made me gain 10 lbs a month.
Yeah it’s tough but we’ve all been there. Your lucky…your smart enough to deal with your choices…I didn’t have that opportunity coming down from psychosis.
Saying that. Dont’ worry bout the side effects till you’ve done 6 weeks minimum. Some drugs are notorious early and you shouldn’t be worried if your getting some early. If after 6 weeks then talk to your shrink.
Risperdal is a great drug for psychosis…that is just from seeing things on this board. Weight gain is all our problems but your being a bit precious if your stopping function over that.
Rule is. Get better function. Worry about side effects later. If your stable then mess with your meds by all means but you look to pay the price if they fail once you stop them.
Anna. You seem to cycle rapidily and your smart as a whip but please…just decide on your options and move forward…you are getting nowhere messing with things…Shite…I’m 30kgs heavier on antipsychotics but I wear that better than most…don’t waste time worrying about the what if’s…worry about the now!!!
