Folks,
I suggest spending this week changing passwords. This is a really bad one. I’m starting tonight after work.
UGH.
Folks,
I suggest spending this week changing passwords. This is a really bad one. I’m starting tonight after work.
UGH.
Thanks for the heads up, just changed some
Also suggesting that people set up Two Factor Authentication (2FA) wherever possible. Even if a bad actor gets your password they can’t get anywhere with it.
Thanks for sharing this news article.
Ok, but just to be clear, this is a list of usernames and passwords etc that have been stolen using malware on people’s PCs etc.
It’s not the case that the organisations in question were hacked.
So if your password was stolen by malware on your pc, I’m not sure changing passwords Is going to get you anywhere.
Using 2 factor authentication is good advice.
The amount of data and the availability is bad and it’s hard to know if you got nailed or not. I am extremely careful and I still manage to find new crap sliding onto my WinPC on a weekly basis. I use it for less and less these days.
All but one of my addresses have been caught in some sort of breach @TheCanuk.
Did you use the website I shared?
I checked the website @TheCanuk posted and my email has been “exposed” via a “myfitnesspal” breach.
But that was years ago, and nothing untoward has happened to me since.
My philosophy has always been that I just assume people know my email address though. It’s public information as far as I’m concerned.
As a result I use a different password for each service/website.
So far, fingers crossed, it’s been a good strategy.
Yeah I have 3 email addresses and I got the same for 1 of them, the myfitnesspal breach. That happened many years ago and nothing happened to me either. Were fine. My 2 main email addresses thankfully said no breaches.
Yep. Ran my main emails through. They are old breaches and I have changed passwords and set up 2FA on all accounts since.
Good, you should be fine.
There asking for my email; how do I know they’re not a scam?
It’s a legit website, I did my research on it before using it. If you dont trust it, simply dont use it.
Just use 2 factor verification and you dont have anything to worry about.
Um… If the second factor is your phone number it’s not as secure as you think. Instagram taught me that. I now use DUO Mobile for 2FA and not my phone number.
It’s a very popular website. It’s reliable.
Thanks. Looks like I’m good.
What happened to your Instagram??
