Managed to cook a meal today

For the last six months I have been living on sandwiches alone. The negative symptoms were real bad and I never had the motivation to cook real food. I also let my personal hygiene slip and I didn’t really go out.

Anyway that episode has passed and I managed to cook a meal today. In all fairness it was just pasta but still it is progress.

I know from past experience that I have bad periods (which typically last for 3 months). But I also have good times in between. So I have to make hay when the sun shines!

If you can’t cook sometimes is it always a black & white thing for you? I think some things are just as easy to fix as a sandwich. I hope you are at least putting lettuce or tomatoes on your sandwiches, almost every nutritionist I listen to or read something by always says how important vegetables are in a healthy diet. It’s easy to buy canned vegetables and cook them in a microwave. And I’ve seen microwave ovens for as cheap as $40.00. Or it’s easy to open a can and simply cook in a pot on the stove. But my first thought is that chicken is cheap and is often on sale. Invest in herbs and spices to give you variety when you cook. For chicken you simply put a few pieces in a glass dish or cookie sheet ,stick in the oven at 350 degrees and cook for 35-40 minutes. It doesn’t get much simpler than that. If beef is on sale you can do the same thing. Same with pork. Or scramble some eggs. I understand the motivation thing but some recipes are just as simple as a sandwich. Also, I hope you aren’t using white bread. Everywhere I read says how bad it is for you. Go with multi-grain. There’s a recipe for everything online. I have a cookbook of 50 recipes that specifically take less than ten minutes to prepare.

Someone is rebelling against your independence.

unfortunately for me i have to cook most of the time as i have children. when my motivation is low, as it is right now i buy in rustlers and noodles not healthy but at least they eat. failing that i put food, simple food, in the oven. when i’m feeling a bit more energetic i cook proper meals. my daughter has chronic fatigue syndrome and has a strict vegetarian diet. mostly she can cook for herself but the last few days she has been bad so i’ve made her soups and garlic mushroom taglatelli. for myself, i’ve just made sandwiches. xxx

My sis cooks a lot. I’m trying to learn.

I do feel a bit hesitant to cook because she’s really good at it. She learned from other family. She makes the hardest stuff look really easy. I know it’s not… it takes preplanning. Not something I’m good at.

Right now she’s on a risotto kick.

I’m learning how to use the slow cooker more for soup and oatmeal overnight.
