I can’t cook

Before I became sick, I made elaborate meals, including homemade ketchup and mayonnaise! I hosted Tuesday night dinners with dozens of people!

Now, I give my children chicken nuggets or oatmeal repeatedly. I made frozen meals for myself. That’s it.

I spent 66 minutes looking at recipes today because I felt motivated to cook. They all felt impossible.

ok so you’ve dropped cooking as a major interest. I’ll bet it’s been replaced by something else.

What about looking for quick and easy recipes to start with? Not necessarily ones that will taste as good as before but ones that you can do with your current limitations?

I 'm better if I have someone helping me . I don’t do well with even semi complex/lots of instructions dishes by myself .

I feel so bad for you! My passion is cooking and I too do the elaborate meals! I don’t like to serve anything on my table that’s not made from scratch. If I’m in the mood for pizza, I have a pizza oven (wood love a wood fired brick oven though), if I’m making Mexican food even the salsa and guacamole is from scratch and this goes on to any ethnic cooking I do! It’s my joy and happiness. I spend my day making cook books and study food techniques, styles etc. I would be lost without this hobby! I hope you have a new hobby to get started learning about and enjoying.

It sounds to me like you need help. Cooking sounds important to you and if you are having trouble doing that because of an illness I think a combination of finding an alternative solution like cooking once a week or watching a cooking show in addition to receiving help in the kitchen from someone who understands your condition would be a good solution.

I cant Cook, feels like it needs a lot of effort, and shopping all The food. maybe If you do something without reciepe, with ur head, it can turn out good.

Hope you get your ability back or even your health, how has been your anxiety attacks lately?

I’ve been ill a long, long time and I almost never cooked. Almost always ate out. Now, I almost never eat out. I always cook. And I love it, now that I’m better.

I’m sorry @FlyingPurplePeopleMeeter.
Maybe you can start off small, following simple recipes.
Until you start feeling better.

olanzapine turned me into a super chef

Maybe start off small with crockpot or casserole recipes. Those don’t require as much attention or time.

I used to be a good cook too. When living with my boyfriend I would make porkchops, brussel sprouts, gyoza, rice, lemon chicken, nacos, the only thing my bf knew how to make were hamburgers.

I used to be a good cook. Now, I don’t cook anything but frozen meals. My youngest is 12 (13 in a month!), and all of my kids know to grab something if Dad isn’t home! They do pizza, grilled cheese, eggs, subs, etc. I do frozen meals lol. So don’t feel bad. It sounds like many of us have this issue.

Like people said, there are simple recipes online. I found a website that has three ingredient meals. It doesn’t have to be an all or nothing proposition. Just cook simple meals three or four nights a week. Try different simple recipes and if you find a couple that are popular with the kids than cook it often and it should get simple to make once you do it a few times and become familiar with it.

Also, find a recipe for something like stew or soup or chili or whatever and make one big batch and serve it once and then freeze the rest to pull out when you feel you just can’t cook that night. I used to cook some good dishes when I lived alone. I had various pots and pans and bowls and other cooking equipment. Now, I don’t cook as much and I basically just have four pieces of cookware that I use. I only cook meals using those four things; it makes cooking a lot easier.

I’m sorry you are finding it hard to cook @FlyingPurplePeopleMeeter. I don’t cook all of the time. Tonight I am reheating pork roast and bean and vegetable soup from the freezer. I make large amounts of food and freeze some of it for easy dinners.
