Maladaptive Daydreaming

Hi… Im an artist but lately i have this daydreaming problem where i would stare at my phone or the computer screen blankly… ive been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar by the way. anybody else have this problem? also im too lazy to shower.

I daydream throughout the day.

I think it can be healthy.

Mine is not maladaptive cos I still get stuff done.

I defo daydream more than regular folks though.

I tell my kids that lazy is a placeholder word. It doesn’t serve any real purpose besides making the person feel bad about themselves. It doesn’t help to identify a problem or a solution.

Too lazy to shower could mean different things. For example, it might mean:

  • the sensation of the water hitting you is deeply unpleasant to you and it is difficult to force yourself to keep doing it on a regular basis
  • it is difficult to remember all the steps of showering, and you avoid it because you’re worried about missing a step
  • You hate having wet hair after a shower
  • You hate having to disrobe even in private

All of these things are specific problems with potential solutions. It is much easier to find the motivation to solve a problem once you know what the actual problem is.

I was thinking not wanting to shower might be a negative symptom of schizophrenia.

I’m too “lazy” to shower too. It’s actually because its very comfortable to just lounge around in the same clothes for a week instead of changing, getting wet, drying off, making laundry, doing laundry. Seems lazy but its actually just staying comfortable.

I shower regularly, but only wash my hair every other day because I don’t like having to dry and straighten my hair and it looks really crazy if I don’t

For me it has been connected to the meds. The higher the dose, the harder to take a shower, or do any chore for that matter.

These days I usually shower daily though. If I’m not going to work I might let it slide for a day, or two at the most.
