Lurasidone (Latuda) Reviews

I was on 111mg of this drug back in 2015.

My pdoc wants me to try it because the side effects will be less - which was my complaint on Clozapine and Flupentixol

Now he wants me to be on a medium range dose, and he expects it to just about treat me enough to keep out of hospital, with much lesser side effects

I am not so sure about this.

Can anyone who’s been on this drug for more than 18 months let me know how you have got on with it longer term?

Thanks my darlings x

I only used 40mg for a couple of weeks coming off olanzapine. Unfortunatly latuda did little to help the insomnia issues from qutting olanzapine and that was the main reason why I had to abandon latuda. But the drug was mentally good to me I think. But a little bit sceptical because I did get pain in my chest from using it only after 2 weeks. I read that this can be a common side effect from latuda. So I guess you better have good cardio health to be on it.

You might ask @Headspark about this. I think he has been using about 60mg for a couple of years by now.

Yes, I started Lurasidone (Latuda) sometime in 2019 I believe, so 2-3 years I’ve been on it.

@Joker as @Mr_Hope said I am on 60mg which is a medium range dose for this drug. Up until about 2 months ago I had no side effects and no weight gain, but that is just my experience. It has also completely eliminated my positive symptoms.

About 2 months ago I developed akathisia from it, but I got a prescription for Trazodone to combat the akathisia and it works 100%. I take 50mg of Trazodone with 30mg of Latuda in the morning with breakfast, then 25mg of Trazodone with 30mg of Latuda with dinner. (Latuda needs to be taken with food, 350 calories)

My doctor wanted to lower my dosage or put me on something else when I told him about my akathisia but I said no to that, I’d rather try Trazodone to combat the akathisia and it’s worked out great. I’ve been really happy with Latuda and I didn’t want to lower my dose or switch to another med and risk becoming psychotic or fat or other side effects.

If you visit the official Latuda website it’s advertised for bipolar depression on the homepage, but it’s also used for schizophrenia, and I feel it, along with the Trazodone (Which is actually an antidepressant) has made me feel happier, since they are both target depressive disorders.

Latuda also has a lower TD risk, lower risk of other side effects, lower risk of weight gain than other antipsychotics. That’s no guarantee but statistically it’s one of the better ones side effects wise. All in all I am very happy with it.
