So my blood test results show that my blood glucose and lipids are fine. My cholesterol is high and my testosterone is low. Apparently my prolactin levels are normal. My doctor said it can’t be the meds causing low testosterone however I know she is absolutely wrong. When I started meds last March that’s when the erectile dysfunction/sexual dysfunction began. I’ve also decided to come completely off my meds. I was gonna taper off but my b i t c h of a doctor wouldn’t prescribe lower doses of meds. Do any of you guys suffer from low testosterone?
How old are you? It happens with age to a lot of men.

I couldnt get a boner on half the meds i was on !!
Really pissed me off !
Im sure girls were not mad.
Just busting your balls {if that’s a used expression [and an appropriate one]}
It was pretty embarrassing, not going to lie !!
I had erectile dysfunction with risperidone.
Now not so much but I have low libido
I’m 23
. My t should be high…
It really sucks. Part of feeling like a man is being able to function sexually. People who aren’t on meds just don’t understand how it feels…
Problems in the nether regions aren’t necessarily due to low testosterone.
You shouldn’t quit your meds, especially not cold turkey.
I was feeling more disabled and impotent due to sexual dysfunction than from schizophrenia.
I started working out. It definitely helped with sex drive. Of course, everyone is different though
I haven’t had sex in like 7 years, so I’m not totally sure working out is the answer
AFAIK the sexual side-effects of meds are connected to high prolactin, but not to testosterone. I might be wrong. You could try researching it. But I’d wager that your doctor is right.
@StonePaperScissors. You’re right. Your testosterone should be high. Have you talked to an endocrinologist? Just in case there’s another cause?
Just got this from a website
When a high blood prolactin concentration interferes with the function of the testicles, the production of testosterone (the main male sex hormone), and sperm production. Low testosterone causes decreased energy, sex drive, muscle mass and strength, and blood count (anemia). If levels remain low for several years, bone strength may decrease (osteoporosis). High levels of prolactin in the blood also cause difficulty in getting an erection, as well as breast tenderness and enlargement.

Yes, but that’s because high prolactin interferes with testosterone. I knew that. But I’m saying I’ve never heard of sexual side-effects of APs being caused by a decrease in testosterone and not a decrease in prolactin.
I’m not an expert. But I haven’t heard of what you’re proposing has happened to you before. So in my mind it sounds likely that there is some other reason for your low testosterone. Maybe you gained weight after starting the meds or something.
I was overweight before starting the meds, and since starting anti psychotics I’ve only gained 3-4 kg so I don’t think weight gain is the cause of low t. Also my pdoc also said as I’ve never had a testosterone test before, that maybe my t was low all along. Who knows? I’ve stopped the aps altogether now and my next blood test in 6 weeks. If my t is still low, I guess I’ll have to take testosterone tablets (anabolic steroids).
Maybe your testosterone just got a little lower and that was all it took.
I hope your testosterone goes back to normal and that you don’t get ill again now that you’re off your meds.
@StonePaperScissors the injections work the best. The pills aren’t a good form of testosterone and the gel that goes under your arms doesn’t work well. The shots are the best. Ask if you can get them. You can do the injections at home yourself
