Lithium shakes

Anyone else get the “lithium shakes”? Recently I’ve noticed a shakiness in my hands, almost like a tremor. I see my pdoc tomorrow and am going to mention it then.

I’ve noticed this when I drink too much coffee.

I have this if I have coffee or if I don’t

Is a known side effect of lithium. My doc put me on the beta blocker propranolol for this.

Word of warning people with asthma can’t take beta blockers

I thought you meant a milkshake with lithium grinded in

I’m sorry you are going through this @Hanna_Foxx
I went through the same thing when I was on lithium years ago

Make sure you are drinking enough water

It’s important with lithium

Oh snap you know I used to take lithium and I had these. Minor tremors, to the point where if I held my hand out and tried to keep it steady it would shake a little. It was minor enough to ignore and went away when I switched meds.

I was on it for bipolar in my 20s before schizophrenia symptoms presented themselves.

@Hanna_Foxx

I heard about a woman dying from purging. It killed her.

Binging and purging can cause shakes from a heart condition

I was bulimic as a teenager

Im sorry but it has to be said, you need help desperately hun. Please

@Ducky I appreciate the concern. I had an intake appointment with a intensive outpatient eating disorder treatment program, I am waiting to hear back to see how much insurance will cover. In the mean time I have an appointment with my pdoc and my therapist tomorrow and I am going to discuss other options with them as well.

I am getting help.

I’m pretty sure the shakes are from the lithium, I will bring it up with my pdoc tomorrow and see what she thinks

Tell them everything tomorrow don’t keep anything secret you need to divulge

Its time to put an end before its too late

Good luck xx

My pdoc said the shakiness is common with lithium and she wanted to prescribe a beta blocker to help. But I refused the beta blocker, I was on beta blockers for years and finally weaned all the way off of them. Beta blockers reduce my ability to exercise and run, I can’t have a medication messing with my exercise ability
