Linux Operating System Thread

I know some people are familiar with the operating system. I would like to be but I’m not there yet. Share your favorite distro or comment.

I don’t use it anymore but I used to use Debian. It’s nice and stable.

I want to install MX Linux on an old Macbook Pro. Has anyone had any experience with something similar?

Maybe try installing it on a virtual machine first, to see the gotchas.

I usually prefer Debian based distro’s but I’ve never tried Debian itself.

Good idea but it has the newest operating system, it’s too slow to run anything as I have been told. It’s a 2010 model. I’ve never owned a mac, I don’t know much about them. I think I can tether my phone to it for internet connection while it installs. I doubt the wifi will work at first.

I’ve done a lot of distro hopping but stick with Ubuntu these days. Fedora is nice but they don’t have drivers for my wireless card in the default repos.

I liked Ubuntu Studio for quite a while.

You’ll probably have to download the distro to a CD or USB and install using that.

I found this guide

WindowsFX I used to like now it paid for :frowning: SO I have also tried Mint, Fedora, openSUSE, and quite a few others.

If you come from Windows, try Linux Mint.
It has all the drivers and codecs (unlike Ubuntu).
It has the nice software center of Ubuntu (unlike MX Linux).

Only used Red Hat - when i used to steal wifi passwords when i was skint lol. Used to take about 3 days to brute force some wifi networks. Was great with an ALFA Aerial that goes a mile with a booster.

Years ago now tho. Im paying it back - by letting the neighbours use my full fibre now for free,

Ive been using linux since around 2006 when i was psychotic and paranoid about getting hacked. Tried several different distros but always go back to ubuntu because it works best with my hardware.

I had ubuntu for a while. It was fun using the bash command line for stuff. Its waaay faster to fetch programs, install and update stuff.

Its like 99% of the games only support Windows.

It’s true, I just use a Nintendo 64 emulator for games so it doesn’t effect me much. I am running windows too. I just like the ease of use right now but when the Windows support ends, Linux will be back.

I was paranoid too. I used to use Tails, I thought that was the neatest thing when I first found out about it. I would take it to work and hijack the work computer for anonymous browsing.
