Lilly has once again survived near death to cost us a thousand dollars yet another day!

It’s a long, traumatic story,

But basically I thought it was over for my little Lilly yesterday morning around 1am.

I’d never seen her as bad off and felt like in my heart she was passing.

After about an hour or so of not dead Lilly,

I talked to my husband and we decided to take her to the emergency specialists.

I hadn’t before that time because I thought she was like actively dying and would pass in the car.

Got her to the vet.

The vet was not super convinced there would be a positive outcome for her.

She even gave me some numbers for like grief counseling and a pamphlet about your dog passing.

So, I went in the lobby and cried my eyes out for a couple hours while they ran a few tests that the doctor was sure would just confirm that she needed to be euthanized.

NO!

Her heart sounded good, her organs were functioning well.

She had an infection that had caused inflammation and caused an arthritis flare up.

They gave her more pain meds, that seem to work better,

Anti inflammatory,

And a heavy anti biotic.

She seemed only a little better last night.

She slept all through the night for the first time in about a year (probably exhaustion).

This morning she stood up, still stiff and uncomfortable,

But not in obvious horrible pain or unable to move like the night before.

She ate her own food, took her meds, paced around a little, then went back to sleep.

I really thought it was over yesterday.

Literally spent all day sobbing in the lobby of an animal hospital.

Today we’re going to take it easy.

Then may house packing resume as scheduled.

Long live Lilly!

(Not a flattering angle, and she had to be shaved, but, this is our spicy, old lady surviving again)

Congrats on yet another victory in the battle for life over death!

Too bad about the grand, but you’re saving a bunch packing for yourself, so I guess just look at it as a slight ding in the money you’re saving  .

I sometimes hope that I die before my current dog does so I don’t have to go through the grief.

Other times I think I would not like to leave her alone to live either, since there is a good chance my parents will go before her death.

Maybe seems a bit silly to some people over a dog, but I often selfishly think it would be better to go before parents and dog.

I think it’s normal to think of your dog as family.

She’s lucky to have an owner as thoughtful as you.

That sounds old. The dog here on the premises in Barcelona is also 14 years old. I think he also has some arthritis as he is limping sometimes.

I think she’s 4 in April? I would have to look at papers to be sure. It could be 5 in april. I always forget. Hopefully shes got another 10 years.

Bless her. I’m sooooo glad she is ok. I’m very attached to my Bella and If anything happened to her god knows what i would do. I’d be crying too.

I got Bella when i was single living alone and my mental health was not good. She kept me company all those years alone. Now I have a family and she fits in welll. But I will never forget the comfort she gave me especially at night when I was alone.
