Lemon water for health

Just wanted to post about something my friend has been doing for a while now.
We have two small lemon trees. At one point we picked a bunch of them and came across a great way to help with my friend’s problems with swelling in her ankles and feet.
She just took half a lemon and cut it into pieces. She squeezed some juice and put the remaining pieces in an empty 32 oz Gatorade or Poweraid bottle. Filled with cold water and sipped from it throughout the day. Just refilled the water from time to time as it got low.
The results were immediate and quite surprising. Her ankles and feet looked great, no discernible swelling.
If you are trying to lose weight or have problems with water-retention, this is an easy and healthy way to combat these problems. Plus, although I’m sure there might be criticisms, I’m assuming the added benefit of the vitamins are a good idea too.
Of course it’s not a bad idea to discard the pieces of lemon every once in a while. Maybe daily, whatever, that’s up to you to decide. :sunglasses:

Would you get the same effect using bottled lemon juice?

Maybe, it seems like it might be helpful.
But maybe it’s the left over pulp and rinds that add something to the equation. IDK.

i always heard that lemon water gives electytes to the bloodstream. don’t quote me on it though…

I love lemon water! It’s pretty much all I drink besides coffee/tea.

I’m a huge fan of lemon water!!! It tastes so much better and leaves me feeling hydrated for longer. I don’t know if there are any actual health benefits. I couldn’t find any legitimate studies on the topic. But it’s a refreshing, low-calorie drink that makes me happy.

Lemon helped my Dad lose a good potion of his huge gut. He probably dropped like 30 inches. And I’ve used it for flushing my stomach.

One interesting thing I tried was when we were out of fresh lemons.
I had been saving all of the rinds for both oranges, tangerines, and eventually lemons. They are in the freezer and I’m just keeping them for the times I want a dose of vitamins and don’t have any citrus fruit available. And for recipes that require a little zest.
I simply put some orange/tangerine rinds in a coffee cup and made a tea with some hot water. Added it to a larger 32 ox container and added ice cubes and cold water.
My friend loved it. Tasted nice to her and we both thought it was probably fairly nutritious, considering the benefits of eating a little peel.
Just an idea!

Wow, I’m all gut these days. Gonna try drinking it too. So far I’ve just been eating peel every once in a while and making the lemon water for my lovely.
Now that you put it this way @anon1571434, I see that I need to start drinking some too.
Thanks to everyone for your replies and advice!

Lime water works just as well, and it is just as refreshing.

Just be aware that lemon juice is very acidic and can potentially cause tooth enamel corrosion.

This is true, to varying degrees, of other beverages as well.

Here is a link to a 2015 study and a table of results from that study.

My white grandmother used to drink hot lemon water every morning. She said it was good for the bowels. I’ve never tried it.
